Local Fishing Report: Friday 2015-10-23

Offshore

Conditions still choppy to rough with winds northwesterly 15 to 25 knots shifting southeasterly in the morning. Seas 1.5 to 2.5 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the morning, then increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres around midday. Saturday easing a bit with winds Southeasterly 15 to 20 knots turning easterly during the afternoon. In the shelter of Laguna Bay and Hall's Reef there's been quality red emperor, squire and grass sweetlip made up the catch. Cougar One fished the top of North Reef on Wendesday for snapper, pearl perch, moses perch and jewfish or mulloway.

Estuaries

Noosa: Before the strong northerlies there were a few good tailor along Teewah and the southern beaches. Whiting in the frying pan area. A big 84cm flathead and a nice big eye trevally caught and released at the river mouth on whitebait. A few big flathead, plenty of bream, whiting, cod and moses perch in Weyba Creek. Good mangrove jack feeding in the deep holes in Noosa Sound and Woods Bay. A few sand crabs in the lower river and mud crabs in the Lakes.

Maroochydore: There's dart, tarwine and the odd tailor along Maroochy North Shore. Giant and golden trevally, tailor, flathead and school jew in the Cod Hole. School jew, flathead and trevally from Bli Bli reach. Plenty of smaller and just size flathead in the lower river. Cod, trevally and tailor in Maroochy Waters. Whiting to 38cm from Chambers Island, Picnic Point and Black banks. Three mangrove jack, released, cod and trevally in Petrie creek. Sand crabs in the lower river.

Kawana: Good trevally up to 2kg and bream from the boat mooring. Flathead and whiting 32cm in the sand basin. Trevally and flathead from Bright water stretch. Mangrove jack in the middle river around the snaggy banks. Good catches of quality sand crabs in the lower reaches of the Mooloolah River.

Caloundra: Tarwhine and whiting in the gutters from Currimundi to Wurtulla. Big flathead from Military jetty. Quality flathead in the 45 to 60cm along Golden Beach stretch. Trevally a few mangrove jack showing up in the canals and creeks and bream along The Boardwalk. A few good whiting starting to feed in the passage. Catches of sand crabs in the passage and muddies in the creeks.
