Local Fishing Report: Sunday 2015-11-01

Offshore

Good offshore conditions early today and then chopping up late afternoon with winds northeasterly 10 to 15 knots turning northerly 15 to 20 knots in the evening. Seas below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the afternoon. Some good catches of sand crabs in the bay at Mooloolaba. A few quality sweetlip and snapper on some of the close in reefs, so try the Gneerings and Caloundra 9 and 12 mile reefs.

North Reef's, had squire, sweetlip, moses perch, venus tusk fish, coral bream and cobia. The Barwon Banks has also had pearl perch, moses perch, hussar, bonito and snapper.

Estuaries

Noosa: A few good tailor along Teewah Beach and the southern beaches. A 54cm mangrove jack taken in Noosa Sound late yesterday afternoon. Try for some good whiting in the frying pan area. A big flathead and a nice big eye trevally caught and released at the river mouth. A few big flathead, plenty of bream, whiting and moses perch in Weyba Creek.

Maroochydore: A 64cm flathead yesterday, 2.5kg golden and 2 giant trevally the day before in the Cod Hole, along with grunter bream, bream and Tarwhine . Plenty of average flathead in the lower river. Whiting in the lower reaches. Mangrove jack, flathead and trevally in Petrie creek and up past Bli Bli. A few mud crabs on the move in the upper reaches and sandies in the lower river and around chambers Island.

Kawana: Good trevally, bream and gar from the boat mooring and in the Kawana canals. Flathead and whiting in the sand basin. Diamond and golden trevally around Minyama Island. Trevally and flathead from Mountain Creek and Bright water stretch. Mangrove jack in the middle river around the snaggy banks. Good catches of quality sand crabs in the lower reaches.

Caloundra: The odd tailor tarwhine and whiting in the gutters from Currimundi to Wurtulla. Good flathead and trevally from Military jetty area. Trevally a few mangrove jack showing up in the canals and creeks and bream along The Boardwalk. A few good whiting starting to feed in the passage. Catches of sand crabs in the passage and muddies in the creeks.
