Local Fishing Report: Wednesday 2015-09-30

Offshore

Looks like choppy offshore conditions again today with north to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots inshore early in the morning and again in the late evening and seas around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres inshore around midday. North Reef has had good snapper, moses perch, mowong, grass sweetlip, pearl perch, Maori cod and lots of small hussar. The Barwon Banks has had gold band snapper, venus tusk fish, moses perch, spangled emperor, lots of squire and some quality snapper.

Estuaries

Noosa: There's a few quality whiting in the lower river. Good queenfish and flathead up around Tewantin yesterday on live silver biddies. Flathead to 68cm in Woods Bay and flathead around the flats between Tewantin Marina and Makepeace Island and at Munna Point. Still bream around the structures and deep holes throughout the river. Mangrove jack in the deep holes in Noosa Sound and Woods Bay. Bream, whiting and trevally at the entrance to Lake Cooroibah and mud crabs in the Lakes.

Maroochydore: There's been tailor in the evenings and whiting and flathead through the day off Madjimba Beach and Maroochy North Shore. A 66cm queenfish taken off Yinni St. Giant trevally and school jew in the Cod Hole. Mangrove jack from the rocks bars in Petrie Creek. Good flathead in Petrie Creek, Bli Bli and Chambers Island. School jew in the deeper holes between Bli Bli bridge and Coolum Creek. Mud crabs between Bli Bli Islands and Coolum Creek, also up Petrie creek. Whiting in the lower river on low tide.

Kawana: Good catches of quality sand crabs in the lower reaches of the Mooloolah River. Still a few good bream and golden trevally from the moorings, rock walls and lower river with better quality fish over night. Trevally, flathead and mud crabs in Mountain Creek and the canals. Golden Trevally, around Minyama Island. Jew over night, whiting and try for mangrove jack around McKenzies Bridge.

Caloundra: Bream and a few mangrove jack showing up in the canals and a few mangrove jack on live bait and lures in Bells Creek. Good quality flathead along the drop offs throughout the Passage. Whiting and flathead in Coochin Creek. Whiting opposite the mouth of Bells Creek. Some good catches of sand crabs in the passage and muddies in the creeks.
