Local Fishing Report: Wednesday 2016-12-28

Offshore

More choppy conditions with winds easterly 15 to 20 knots and seas around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres offshore north of Maroochydore. Better conditions tomorrow with with a sea breeze as winds will be east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots tending north to northeasterly during the evening.  There have been  Northern bluefin or longtail tuna in Laguna Bay and Big Hall's. Pearl perch, tuskfish, maori cod and spanish mackerel on Sunshine Reef. Spanish and spotty mackerel at Jew Shoal, while there’s pearl perch, estuary cod and large mouth nannygai on Massouds Reef and snapper, pearl perch, moses perch and spanish mackerel on North Reef. Spanish and spotty mackerel between the Inner Gneerings and Raper Shoal. Spanish mackerel off Point Cartwright, on the Gneering Shoals and Coolum Reef, snapper and mahi mahi at the Hards. Snapper, pearl perch and red throat emperor at Caloundra Wide.

Estuaries

Noosa: Try for dart, bream and whiting along the beaches. A 3kg+ golden trevally was caught yesterday, in the lower estuary just before the top of the tide. Trevally, flathead, bream and mulloway at the Noosa River mouth, A few big flathead was caught and released and the odd tailor in Woods Bay. Plenty of mangrove jack have been caught with some released throughout the river system. Mud crabs in the mid to upper reaches.

Maroochydore: Quality whiting over night and golden trevally yesterday in the lower river. A few good flathead, mangrove jack and jew at night in the Cod Hole. Few good jack in upper reaches and around substantial structures in the lower river. Flathead and bream from the mouth of Eudlo Creek. Some good mud crab throughout the river system.

Kawana: Good dart and whiting in gutters, south of Pt Cartwright. Trevally along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth. Trevally, bream and gar from near the pontoon at La Balsa Park, the boat mooring and in the Kawana canals. A few big flathead and whiting in the sand basin and trevally around Minyama Island. Trevally and flathead from Mountain Creek. Mangrove jack in the middle river and in Mountain Creek in and around the bridge pylons and snaggy banks.

Caloundra: Dart, bream and flathead along the beaches as well as trevally and big flathead on the Happy Valley side of the Bar. Whiting off Golden Beach and Bells Creek mouth, flathead along the drop offs and jew in the deeper holes in the Passage, mangrove jack around the bridge pylons and rock walls.

Jackson McCall Dusky

Jackson McCall was stoked with his first Dusky Flathead, that he caught in the upper Maroochy River yesterday.
