Local Fishing Report: Friday 2017-11-24

Offshore

Looking like a reasonable weekend ahead for fishing. Today conditions are looking great for offshore fishing today with southeasterly about 10 knots increasing to 10 to 15 knots before dawn with seas around  1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres offshore during the morning. Tomorrow should be pretty good as well with winds still around southeasterly 10 to 15 knots turning easterly during the evening and seas around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres north of Maroochydore during the afternoon. Recently there have been good catches on local reefs with Cougar One fishing North Reef for snapper,  moses perch, tusk fish, gold spot cod, maori cod cobia and quality pearl perch. Maori cod, moses perch, pearl perch, tusk fish, snapper, trevally, grass sweetlip, spangled emperor and red throat emperor from Sunshine Reef. Sweetlip, venus tusk and snapper from Murphy’s Reef. Tusk fish, moses perch, pearl perch and snapper from Caloundra 12 mile. Moses Perch, Tusk fish, snapper to 60cm and a 4kg spangled emperor, pearl perch, mulloway and big  teraglin jewfish  taken from the middle of the Barwon Banks. Saddle tail sea perch, snapper, moses perch, aerolate cod, gold band snapper and pearl perch from Trekka 2’s recent trip to Double Island Point. Rainbow escape Charters caught big red emperor and Maori cod east of wide bay bar.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Plenty of flathead with a few good quality fish in the 70 to 85cm range being caught and released, around the lower river. Big flathead, barred grunter, whiting and quality giant trevally in Woods bay and canals in Noosa Sound. Bream, flathead, grunter and whiting along Tewantin stretch. Mangrove Jack are feeding throughout the system. Mud crabs throughout the river and canal systems.

Maroochydore: Trevally between Chambers Island and the cod hole boat ramp on the making tide. Flathead from around Cotton Tree, the Cod Hole, Chambers Island and the creeks. Quality whiting feeding throughout the lower river. Sand crabs in the lower river. Mud crabs throughout the middle river.

Mooloolaba: Golden trevally, cod and bream off the rock walls and La Balsa stretch. Whiting from the flats above McKenzies bridge, the sand basin the lower river and in Mountain Creek. Mud crabs in the lower river and canals.

Caloundra: Flathead, trevally and bream from the boardwalk. Whiting from Golden Beach on the banks and the few dart odd, bream and flathead feeding around the bar. Mangrove jack in Currimundi creek and in Pelican Waters Canal. There are a few good quality muddies throughout all the creeks that feed into the Passage.

What a day! Spent the day on a charter off Double Island Point with some good mates, it was so rough up there, I spewed my guts up all day, but I kept pushing through and we all managed to land something mega. Here's brae with one of the many epic fish landed on the boat today.
