Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2017-10-28

Offshore

Today is looking okay with northwesterly 10 to 15 knots shifting east to southeasterly before dawn then tending east to northeasterly in the evening and seas around 1 metre. Sunday’s conditions are looking excellent particularly in the morning with winds variable about 10 knots becoming north to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots during the morning and seas below 1 metre, increasing to around 1 metre during the evening. Now, after the rough and windy conditions it is worth trying for a few of the quality amberjacks, parrot and snapper from Murphy’s Reef. Quality coral trout, big pearl perch, red emperor and amberjack wide of Double Island Point. Snapper, jew fish, moses perch, hussar, venus tusk, rosy job fish, amberjack, gold spot cod, gold spot wrasse and pearl perch from the Hards. Moses perch, venus tusk fish,  gold spot wrasse, pearl perch, snapper, hussar and gold band snapper from the Barwon Banks. Big pearl perch, cobia, coral trout, red emperor, quality grassy sweetlip, amberjack, tusk fish and snapper wide and north of Double Island Point. Snapper , pearl perch, red emperor, sweetlip, tuskies, and cobia 22nm east of the Wide Bay Bar.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: A few dart, flathead and bream off the beaches. With the water beginning to clear on the flood tide there are a few good quality flathead, whiting and trevally the river mouth, frying pan and in Woods bay. The crews on Noosa River Fishing Safaris caught and released a 67cm flathead near the river mouth using a whitebait and a 68cm flathead caught in the Tewantin ski run using a prawn bait. Mud crabs throughout the lower river, especially in all of the canal systems.

Maroochydore: Whiting, plenty of grunter with the dirty water, bream and tarwhine feeding throughout the lower river yesterday particularly on the incoming tide. Flathead, grunter, golden trevally and bream in the Cod Hole. Heaps of undersize bream and just legal flathead from Chambers Island, Oyster bank road and Picnic Pt. Golden trevally and whiting from the Black Bank and Twin Waters area. Mud crabs are moving in the middle and lower river, creeks and canals.

Mooloolaba: Golden trevally, cod, grunter bream and bream off the rock walls and La Balsa stretch. Whiting from the flats above McKenzies bridge and in Mountain Creek. Whiting and flathead from the sand basin. Mud crabs in the lower river and canals.

Caloundra: Flathead, golden trevally and bream from the boardwalk. Trevally, whiting, grunter and bream on the dirty water line on the making tide. Whiting between Bells Creek and the bar on the banks. Mud crabs are moving throughout the passage, the creeks creek and canals.
