Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2017-11-30

Offshore

More good conditions despite the wet weather with easterly winds at 10 to 15 knots and seas and swell around the 1 metre mark. North reef had moses perch, snapper, venus tusk fish, Maori cod, gold spot cod, pearl perch and scarlet sea perch.  Massouds Reef had maori cod, venus tusk fish, grass sweetlip and small mouth nannygai.  Spanish mackerel, long tail tuna, grass sweetlip and venus tusk fish from the Blinker. Also amberjacks, sweetlip parrot and snapper from Murphy’s Reef. Tusk fish, snapper, pearl perch and Spanish mackerel  from Caloundra 12 mile. Double Island Point has had had saddle taile sea perch, snapper, moses perch, coral trout and gold band snapper.  The wider grounds off NE of Rainbow Beach have had quality catches of  pearl perch,  red emperor, cod, tusk fish and amberjack.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Flathead, bream and quality grunter from the river mouth. Big flathead, grunter, whiting and quality giant trevally in Woods bay and canals in Noosa Sound. Bream, flathead, grunter and whiting along Tewantin stretch. Mangrove Jacks in Noosa Sound in the creeks and up river around structures and snags. Mud crabs throughout the river and canal systems.

Maroochydore: Tailor and trevally from the river mouth over night. Trevally and a 50cm grunter bream between Chambers Island and the Cod Hole boat ramp. Flathead from around Cotton Tree, the Cod Hole, Chambers Island and the creeks. Quality whiting feeding throughout the lower river. Mud crabs throughout the middle river.

Mooloolaba: With the dirty runoff water it is better to fish the lower river on the incoming tide where the incoming tide meets the runoff. Jacks and cod from McKenzies bridge on the high tide. Trevally, cod and bream off the rock walls and La Balsa stretch. Whiting from the sand basin in the lower river. Jacks and trevally from Minyama Island. Mud crabs throughout including the lower river and canals.

Caloundra: Flathead, a few golden trevally and bream from the boardwalk. Whiting from Golden Beach and the banks throughout the northern passage. Dart, bream and flathead feeding around the bar. Grunter and flathead from Bells creek. Muddies throughout the Passage and the creeks that feed into the Passage.

The crew aboard Rainbow Escape Charters did some vertical jigging on last weekend’s charter for several big amberjack and quality pearl perch wide of Fraser Island.
