Extended Fishing Report: Friday 2018-09-28

Offshore

Today's conditions will be choppy with fresh northerlies with winds northerly 15 to 20 knots and seas 1 to 1.5 metres. The winds will increase a bit tomorrow, but look out for Sunday with up to 25 knot southeasterly conditions looking like being very choppy to rough in offshore waters. There have been some good catches in the past week so be ready to go, Wild Thing 2 fished North Reef where they got a great feed of moses perch, coral bream, grassy sweetlip, gold spot wrasse, goat fish and some quality pearl perch. Snapper, long tail tuna, tusk fish from the Gneerings. Snapper, pearl perch, cobia, jew and tusk fish from the Barwon Banks. Double Island Point has had good snapper, red emperor, large cod, a few trout, pearl perch, moses perch,and tusk fish. There have been good snapper, pearl perch, hussar a few cobia, tuskfish, sweetlip and a few hard fighting trevally, feeding around the 20nm reefs, East of the Wide Bay Bar.

Out and around Hervey Bay: There have been some good corination trout, snapper,tuskfish and pearl perch for those who ventured as far as Sandy Cape. The Bay is fishing well for snapper, sweetlip, school mackerel, a few good cod and there have been several catches of big giant and golden trevally on most of the inshore reefs. A few queenfish feeding throughout the Straits and in the Burrum River. Bream, school mackerel, bonito, Jew and longtail tuna as well as a few good flathead and whiting off and around the Urangan Jetty. Flathead off the beaches between Burrum Heads and Urangan. A few thread fin salmon, trevally bream, whiting and reasonable flathead and mud crabs on the movein the creeks that feed into the Straits.

Estuaries and Beaches

Fraser Island: Dart and tailor in gutters right along the beach. Jew and a few bigger tailor in the deeper gutters along the eastern beach, particularly overnight. A few good sand whiting, bream and good dart in the shallow gutters. On the western side of Fraser island there’s been plenty of whiting and catches of flathead and trevally, while in the creeks and the flats there’s a few good solid bream bream and flathead. Get the crab pots in and try for some mud crabs in the creeks. The closure will be over at midday this Sunday the 30th September 2018. Hopfully, there has been plenty of spawning action to keep the sustainability of this important recreational fishing species, Tailor, safe and viable for future generations of anglers to come. Rainbow Beach: Dart, and good tailor in the gutters all along the beach from Inskip Point to Double Island Point. Try for jew and bigger tailor in the gutters particularly at night. There have been a few quality flathead, dart and bigger sand whiting in the gutters through the day at Rainbow Beach, Double Island Point and along Teewah Beach. A few good whiting, bream and dart up the beach and around Inskip Point. A few good mangrove jack showing up in the creeks in Tin Can Bay, there's also still a few tailor, whiting, bream,a nd plenty of good quality flathead and good size fighting golden and giant trevally. Local Dams and Rivers: Quality bass and a few good yellowbelly, Golden Perch at Boondooma Dam. Borumba Dam has had saratoga feeding around the shallow edges of the dam as wellas bass in the shallow weed beds and around lilypads on surface walkers and purple spinnerbaits. Also worth a try on soft and hard lure in the main Basin have a go at Borumba Flat. Ice Jigs, 1/4 oz blades,spoons and tail spinners will all produce fish, wish catches to 50 cm.The deeper water in the main basin of Lake MacDonald is producing good bass. The Switchblades have the action for good bass out of the Tiaro stretch of the Mary River so get some Smak 16 and Brolga on the troll and TT Blades.

Noosa: Flathead, jacks and quality golden trevally in the Woods Bays. At present there have been several good catches of dusky flathead throughout the river, some released to 74cm. Noosaville has had good whiting and flathead with the bream around the structures. A few good catches of Jacks between the lakes.

Maroochydore: Bream, trevally and plenty of good flathead around the the Cod Hole, picnic Point and upstream to Bli Bli. Quality flathead from Eudlo Creek, Twin Waters and the southern channel. Mangrove jack in the Creeks and middle river. Quality whiting and few bream between Chambers and Channel Island.

Mooloolaba: Bream, the odd tailor and golden trevally from the boat moorings. Whiting from La Balsa Sans basin and above McKenzies Bridge. Mangrove jack from the middle river. Bream, tailor and jew at night off the rocks at Point Cartwright.

Caloundra: Whiting, bream and a few good flathead in the gutters along the beaches from the rocky headland and tip of Bribie. Whiting and bream from Golden Beach. There have been plenty of good catches of quality flathead throughout the passage and in the creeks and along the skids. Jacks in Coochin Creek.
