Local Fishing Report: Monday 2018-08-06

Offshore

Choppy to rough conditions today with winds north to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots, increasing to 20 to 25 knots during the afternoon with seas 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2.5 metres around midday. Conditions settle a bit tomorrow particularly close inshore with winds westerly 15 to 20 knots turning southwesterly during the morning and seas 1.5 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the morning. My mate Benny Forgan caught some good snapper with one going 70cm (10lb) on soft plastics at the Gneerings real early Sunday morning.The Hards have had moses perch, hussar, rosy jobfish, coral bream, good tuskies, gold spot wrasse, pearl perch, trag jew and snapper. There have been some good quality snapper and spanish mackerel caught close inshore off Sunshine Beach this week. North Reef's had good snapper, moses perch, tusk fish, pearl perch and cobia. Grass sweetlip, cobia, cod, quality snapper and tusk fish from the Barwon Banks. Snapper, cobia, pearl perch, tusk fish from Caloundra 12 mile. Snapper, grass sweetlp, moses perch and parrot from Murphy's.. Big grass sweetlip and nice keeper snapper around Old Women Island. Snapper and Sweetlip around Brays Rock.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Tailor, a few whiting and bream and good dart along Teewah Beach. Luderick in the lower river. Some good Whiting, bream and plenty of good quality flathead from throughout the river. Golden trevally along the Tewantin Reach and in Noosa Sound. Bream around the bridges and rocky areas of the lower river.

Maroochydore: Try for tailor from the sand bags and north shore.Try for some better quality whiting around Chambers Island Plenty of bream particularly over night from the motorway bridge pylons and along Oyster bank road. Flathead and bream from around Goat and Channel Islands.

Mooloolaba: Try for tailor along Kawana and Wurtulla Beach at dawn and dusk. A few good tailor and golden trevally in the lower river. Bream around McKenzies Bridge, the rock walls and the Kawana Boat Ramp. Average size grass sweetlip and big bream off the rocks at Point Cartwright. Gar in the La Balsa sand basin.

Caloundra: Whiting, bream and tailor along the beach between Currimundi and Moffat heads. Bream and tailor from Shelly Beach. Bream, tailor and flathead off the boardwalk. Bream, flathead and whiting along Golden beach. Trevally, cod, tailor and bream in Pelican Waters Canal.
