Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2018-06-23

Offshore

Reasonably workable conditions today with winds south to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots decreasing to about 10 knots in the late evening. Winds tending south to southwesterly inshore during the morning. and seas around 1 metre.  Great conditions tomorrow with winds south to southeasterly about 10 knots and seas below 1 metre. Local kayak angler Warren Norup, has fished Sunshine Reef again this week separate occasions for three quality Spanish mackerel, to 132cm /14.2kg on a trolled bonito. Big snapper on Sunshine and  North Reef on pilly floaters down the burley trail the biggest one went 82cm as well as coral trout, Spanish mackerel, yellow tail kingfish and grass sweetlip and also a few cobia. Snapper, pearl perch, nice tusk fish and cod from local reefs out from Mooloolaba and Caloundra . Jew and sweetlip from Currimundi. has had jew, good snapper and cobia showing up. Spanish mackerel, cod, grass sweetlip, cobia and big tusk fish from the Barwon Banks. Double Island Point theirs tusk fish,Maori cod, a rare Blue Maori Cod, big grassy sweetlip and spangled emperor. pearl perch, big snapper, gold band snapper, moses perch, nannygai and trevally. There have been good catches of jew, quality snapper, pearlies, sweetlip, nannygai, moses perch, Maori and big estuary rock cod and still a few mackerel around the 22nm reefs East of the Wide Bay Bar.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Luderick or blackfish taken in Sandy Cove and at the car park rocks at the river mouth and lower river. Flathead around Munna Pt and quality golden trevally around the sand bags. Some and big flathead to 76cm been released in the lower estuary. Chopper tailor and a few good whiting caught over the weekend as well as quality bream and trevally from the River mouth. School jew and a jew went 91cm, threadfin salmon and still good mud crabs in between the lakes with a few sand crabs in the lower river.

Maroochydore: Remember, 'The Cod Hole Fishing Comp Winter Classic' is on from the 5 - 8th July. A few good bream to 36cm feeding in the lower river. Some really nice gutters along Mudjimba and Marcoola Beach's to try for a few dart, bream and jew at night. A good keeper jew taken yesterday in the Canals as well as tailor big golden trevally, taken in the Cod Hole. Several quality flathead and big whiting to 40cm caught in the lower reaches over the weekend. A few sand crabs in the lower river and in Eudlo Creek.

Mooloolaba: Dart in the gutter between Kawana and Wurtulla. Big jack and quality bream around McKenzies Bridge area this week. Average size grass sweetlip and big bream off the rocks at Point Cartwright. Gar in the lower river. Quality bream feeding around the rocks walls and Jetties in the lower river. Golden and giant trevally in the middle river and canals. Its worth trying for some sand crabs around the high tide.

Caloundra: Bream off the rocks outcrops and headland between Dicky and Shelly Beaches. Tailor and bream for the NE tip of Bribie. Whiting, bream and flathead along the golden beach stretch. A few nice jew in the deeper holes throughout the passage. Some good catches of sand crabs throughout the Pumicestone Passage
