Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2018-07-07

Offshore

Looking like reasonable conditions early today close inshore, ahead of a Strong Wind Warning for Saturday evening in Sunshine Coast Waters with winds north to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots ahead of a 20 to 25 knots southwesterly change in the late evening. Southwesterly winds reaching up to 30 knots offshore in the late evening with seas below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres offshore around midday. Tomorrow conditions will be rough particularly early with southwesterly 20 to 30 knots turning southerly 15 to 20 knots during the day  1.5 to 2.5 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the afternoon or evening. There's been good catches of snapper including big knobbies to 7kg on Sunshine and  North Reef as well as coral trout, Spanish mackerel, yellow tail kingfish and grass sweetlip and also a few cobia. Snapper, pearl perch, nice tusk fish and cod from local reefs out from Mooloolaba and Caloundra. Jew and sweetlip from Currimundi. has had jew, good snapper and cobia showing up. Spanish mackerel, cod, grass sweetlip, big cobia and big tusk fish from the Barwon Banks. Wild Thing 2 fished Double Island Point on Sunday landing a cobia before the first rod was baited then we also caught longtail tuna, moses perch, big tusk fish, grassie sweet lip, coral bream, amberjack and an awesome feed of big snapper. The crew aboard Double Island Point Fishing Charters took some huge Spanish mackerel and quality Knobby snapper last weekend. There have been excellent Red Emperor and solid Maori Cod taken by the crews on a Rainbow Escape Chartes North of Double Island Point and East of the Wide Bay Bar last weekend

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Luderick at the river mouth and lower river. Jew at night and flathead around Munna Pt, Goat and Sheep Islands. Diamond and golden trevally along the Tewantin Reach. Golden trevally in woods bays and the canals. Chopper tailor, jew at night and a few whiting in the lower river. Quality bream and trevally from the River mouth.

Maroochydore: 'The Cod Hole Fishing Comp Winter Classic' is on right now and will be having the major prize draw tomorrow, so its not too late to enter before midday today! A few tailor, dart and bream in the gutters between Mudjimba and Marcoola. A few good bream to 36cm feeding in the lower river. Several school jew and good keepers to 86cm and some quality big cod in the Cod Hole, and in the creeks and reports of big jew at night off the sand bags at CottonTree, also worth a try in Maroochy Waters and the Bli Bli stretch. Flathead and big whiting from Goat Island. A few sand crabs in the lower river and in Eudlo Creek.

Mooloolaba: Tailor, diamond and golden trevally in the lower river. Quality bream around McKenzies Bridge, the rock walls and the Kawana Boat Ramp. Average size grass sweetlip and big bream off the rocks at Point Cartwright. Gar in the La Balsa sand basin. Sand crabs in Kawana Waters.

Caloundra: Big bream, the odd tailor and good jew off the rocks outcrops and headland between Dicky and Shelly Beaches. Luderick, bream and flathead off the boardwalk. Grass sweetlip and bream around the sea grass beads south of Golden beach. Whiting, bream and flathead along the golden beach stretch. Some good catches of sand crabs throughout the Pumicestone Passage.
