Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2018-04-19

Offshore

Today could still be choppy at times with winds southeasterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching 15 to 20 knots offshore early in the morning. Winds decreasing to about 10 knots in the late evening and seas 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing to 1 metre during the morning. Tomorrow there will be fantastic offshore conditions, with winds east to southeasterly about 10 knots and seas below 0.5 metres. Saturday and Sunday's conditions are looking pretty good with southeasterly in the 10 to 15 knot range and seas around 1 metre. This week, Wild Thing 2 crew fished Double Island Point and caught heaps of good tuskies, moses perch, slatie bream, hussar, snapper, gold spot estuary cod and Maori cod." Chicko Vella, Davo's Tackle World, we’ve been praying for the good weather, but everyone must have prayed at once. I'm pleased to confirm the Spanish are back on the menu. As predicted, tuna and Spanish mackerel are on the charge. Go for a few coral trout, cod, snapper and parrot at North Reef. Similar species have been reported at Barwon Banks. Trout, Spanish mackerel, cod, grass sweetlip, cobia and tusk fish from Sunshine Reef. Mac and long tail from most of the closer inshore reefs. Earlier this week, east of the Wide Bay Bar and Double Island there were some excellent catches of yellowfin tuna, mackerel, pearlies, cobia, red emperor, scarlet sea perch, hussar and gold spot wrasse and mahi mahi.

Local Dams and Rivers

Borumba Dam has has been on fire for quality bass and also some good saratoga, use jackalls along the drop offs and weed banks a go for saratoga at dusk on surface lures. Check out Southern Queensland Fishing facebook page, for more Dam Information.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Great conditions for dart, bream and whiting along the beaches. Whiting and flathead, bream and trevally from the River mouth and lower river. A few queenfish, trevally in Woods bays. Mangrove jack around the structures and snaggy areas. Good grunter, bream and quality dusky flathead around Sheep and Goat Islands. Mud crabs throughout river.

Maroochydore: A few dart and bream with some good deep gutters with some coffee rock along Marcoola and Coolum Beach. Good schools of herring bait fish around Chambers island and Picnic point. Target jew, bream and trevally in the Cod Hole. Bream, whiting and several quality flathead along the Black Banks and Goat Island stretch. Still big mud crabs throughout the river particularly in the creeks.

Mooloolaba: Trevally and some good size bream around the rocks walls, pontoons and Jetties in the lower river. Good fighting golden trevally around Minyama Island. Cod, trevally and flathead from La Balsa Basin and mangrove jack around the structures and rock walls. Mud crabs and some flathead to 61 cm in the creeks, canals and generally throughout the river.

Caloundra: Trevally, mangrove jack and cod in Pelican Waters Canal. Whiting, bream, grunter and flathead on the flats between the bar and Golden Beach and in the creek mouths. Trevally a few chopper tailor and bream in the canals and top end of passage. Muddies in the creeks and mangrove areas throughout the passage.
