Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2018-05-31

Well, tomorrow is the first day of Winter, so get ready for some fantastic winter fishing, this season. You can expect a few months of quality catches of bream, luderick ready to feed, schools of mullet, tailor and jew along the coast, with snapper moving closer in shore, squid and a few school mackerel on the menu.

Offshore

Strong Wind Warning for Thursday for Sunshine Coast Waters, with winds south to southwesterly 20 to 25 knots, briefly reaching up to 30 knots at times offshore early in the morning. Winds decreasing to 10 to 15 knots during the afternoon, then increasing again to 15 to 20 knots during the evening and seas 1.5 to 2.5 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres around midday. Tomorrow choppy out wide with southwesterly 15 to 20 knots turning southerly early in the morning and seas 1 to 2 metres. So when the wind and seas settles back be ready to go! Double Island Point there's been tusk fish, pearl perch, snapper, gold spot cod, moses perch, red emperor, trevally and Maori cod. Sunshine and North Reef have had coral trout to 6.0kg, also had good Spanish mackerel and yellow tail kingfish, snapper and grass sweetlip and also a few cobia. quality Spanish mackerel,off Mooloolaba, Coolum and Caloundra. Caloundra 12 Mile has had good snapper and cobia showing up. Out on the reefs off Double Island catches of snapper, yellowfin tuna, Spanish mackerel, pearlies, jew cobia, red emperor, scarlet sea perch, hussar and gold spot wrasse.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Flathead around Munna Pt and good golden trevally around the sand bags. Chopper tailor, whiting a few quality bream and trevally from the River mouth and lower river. Trevally, tailor and bream in Woods Bay. School jew, threadfin salmon and good mud crabs in between the lakes.

Maroochydore: Plenty of school jew in the middle river with a few good keeper fish in the deeper holes. Quality trevally the Cod Hole stretch. Dart, bigger bream to 40cm, tailor and jew from both sides of the river mouth. Flathead around Chambers Island and Picnic Point. Still getting some good late season mud crabs throughout the river. Sand crabs form the lower river.

Mooloolaba: Good schools of 3 X 2 gar in the lower river. Quality bream around the rocks walls and Jetties in the lower river. Golden and diamond trevally in the middle river and canals. Mud crabs in the canals and its worth trying for some sand crabs.

Caloundra: Tailor and bream for the NE tip of Bribie. Whiting, bream and flathead along the golden beach stretch. A few nice jew in the deeper holes throughout the passage. Trevally, bream and cod in Pelican waters. Still muddies in the creeks.
