Local Fishing Report: Tuesday 2018-01-23

Offshore

Great conditions with winds variable about 10 knots becoming easterly 10 to 15 knots in the early afternoon then tending northeasterly in the late afternoon, with seas and swell below 1 metre. Good tomorrow as well with winds north to northeasterly about 10 knots tending east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots during the morning and  seas below 1 metre.  Maori cod, pearl perch, cobia, venus tusk fish, gold spot cod and spotty mackerel on North Reef. Sunshine Reef there’s been good cobia, moses perch, tusk fish, pearl perch, spotty mackerel, spanish mackerel, coral trout, trevally and quality dolphin fish. Spanish Mackerel on Halls Reef. Snapper, cod, venus tusk, pearl perch, spotty mackerel and tuna from Caloundra 12 mile. Spotty mackerel from Caloundra 9 mile, the inner gneerings and Currimundi reef. Black marlin and wahoo from the Mooloolaba 18 mile. Wahoo, venus tusk fish, pearl perch and mahi mahi from the banks. D.I.P has had catches of Spanish Mackerel, snapper, gold band snapper, cobia, coral bream, scarlet sea perch, tuna, some nice pearl perch and dolphin fish. Yellowfin tuna, cobia, grass sweetlip, mackerel average snapper and venus tusk fish from the Blinker.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Trevally, flathead and queenfish in the Woods Bays. Bream and a few good quality whiting in the frying pan. Good mangrove jack feeding in the creeks and around bridge pylons. Plenty of bream and a few good muddies in Weyba Creek. Good mud crabs throughout the upper river.

Maroochydore: Plenty of trevally feeding in the Cod Hole in the incoming tide over the weekend. Mangrove jack in creeks and the upper reaches. A few whiting taken on the incoming tide and flathead from the river mouth. Bream from Bli Bli, plenty of average size golden trevally and bream from off oyster bank road. Mud crabs throughout the river.

Mooloolaba: Dart, whiting and tarwhine from the beach gutters. Bream, grunter and giant and golden trevally from the boat moorings. Plenty of good whiting throughout the lower river and bream from La Balsa and basin. Mangrove jack around the structures in the upper river. Mud crabs throughout including the lower river and canals.

Caloundra: Try for dart, whiting, tarwhine and trevally in the Surf at Warana. Flathead and bream inside the bar. Jew and grunter in the deeper holes of northern passage. A few quality whiting feeding on the flats throughout the passage. Muddies throughout the Passage and the creeks that feed into the Passage.

Keen Sunshine Coast angler Mitchell Inness, had a fantastic time out off Mooloolaba on Sunday, taking this powerful and active fighting yellowfin tuna.
