Local Fishing Report: Tuesday 2018-04-17

Offshore

Today, conditions will be good most of the day, but could become a bit choppy at times as winds will be west to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots, becoming variable about 10 knots in the late morning ahead of a southeasterly change 10 to 15 knots extending from the south in the afternoon and evening. Winds reaching up to 20 knots south of Maroochydore in the early morning and during the evening and seas are around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres later in the evening. Tomorrow, will be real good conditions with a southerly 10 to 15 knots turning east to southeasterly below 10 knots during the afternoon and seas around 1 metre. With the good conditions it's worth heading out to the inshore reefs to chase the schooling long tail tuna, a few mackerel and mixed bag of reef fish. Go for a few coral trout, cod, snapper and parrot at North Reef. Similar species have been reported at Barwon Banks. Trout, Spanish mackerel, cod, grass sweetlip, cobia and tusk fish from Sunshine Reef. Mac and long tail from most of the closer inshore reefs.

Local Dams and Rivers

In the Dams quality bass, saratoga and yellowbelly feeding at present. Borumba Dam has has been on fire for quality bass and also some good saratoga, use jackalls along the drop offs and weed banks a go for saratoga at dusk on surface lures. Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Great conditions for dart, bream and whiting along the beaches as conditions improve. Whiting and flathead, bream and trevally from the River mouth and lower river. A few queenfish, trevally in Woods bays. Mangrove jack around the structures and snaggy areas, throughout the river. Good grunter bream and quality dusky flathead around Sheep and Goat Islands. Mud crabs throughout river.

Maroochydore: A few dart along the Northshore beach and Marcoola and Coolum Beach. good schools of herring bait fish around Chambers island and Picnic point yesterday. Target jew, bream and trevally in the Cod Hole. Bream some up to 40cm, whiting and several quality flathead along the Black Banks and Goat Island stretch. Still big mud crabs throughout the river particularly in the creeks.

Mooloolaba: Trevally and some good size bream around the rocks walls, pontoons and Jetties in the lower river. Good fighting golden trevally around Minyama Island. Cod, trevally and flathead from La Balsa Basin and mangrove jack around the structures and rock walls. Mud crabs and some flathead to 61 cm in the creeks, canals and generally throughout the river.

Caloundra: Trevally, mangrove jack and cod in Pelican Waters Canal. Whiting, bream, grunter and flathead on the flats between the bar and Golden Beach and in the creek mouths. Trevally a few chopper tailor and bream in the canals and top end of passage Muddies in the creeks and mangrove areas throughout the passage.
