Local Fishing Report: Tuesday 2018-07-03

Offshore

Strong Wind Warning for today in Sunshine Coast Waters, best to stay in sheltered waters with winds southerly 15 to 25 knots, reaching up to 30 knots offshore south of Maroochydore during the day with seas 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2.5 metres during the morning. Tomorrow rough as well with winds southerly 20 to 25 knots turning southeasterly during the afternoon with seas 1.5 to 2 metres. Trekka 2 did a charter to North Reef where they caught moses perch, hussar, Maori cod, pearl perch grass sweetlip and cobia. There's been good catches of snapper including big knobbies to 7kg on Sunshine and  North Reef as well as coral trout, Spanish mackerel, yellow tail kingfish and grass sweetlip and also a few cobia. Snapper, pearl perch, nice tusk fish and cod from local reefs out from Mooloolaba and Caloundra. Jew and sweetlip from Currimundi. has had jew, good snapper and cobia showing up. Spanish mackerel, cod, grass sweetlip, big cobia and big tusk fish from the Barwon Banks. Wild Thing 2 fished Double Island Point on Sunday landing a cobia before the first rod was baited then we also caught longtail tuna, moses perch, big tusk fish, grassie sweet lip, coral bream, amberjack and an awesome feed of big snapper.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Luderick at the river mouth and lower river. Jew at night and flathead around Munna Pt, Goat and Sheep Islands. Bream and golden trevally around the sand bags as well as golden trevally to 62cm in woods bays and the canals. Chopper tailor and a few good whiting,as well as quality bream and trevally from the River mouth. Try for a few sand crabs in the lower river.

Maroochydore: A few tailor, dart and bream in the gutters between Mudjimba and Marcoola. A few good bream to 36cm feeding in the lower river. Several school jew and good keepers to 86cm in the Cod Hole, and reports of big jew at night off the sand bags at CottonTree, also worth a try in Maroochy Waters and the Bli Bli stretch. Flathead and big whiting from Goat Island. A few sand crabs in the lower river and in Eudlo Creek.

Mooloolaba: Dart in the gutter between Kawana and Wurtulla. Quality bream around McKenzies Bridge, the rock walls and boat moorings. Average size grass sweetlip and big bream off the rocks at Point Cartwright. Gar in the La Balsa sand basin. Trevally and tailor in the canals and around Minyama Island. Sand crabs in Kawana Waters.

Caloundra: Big bream and good jew off the rocks outcrops and headland between Dicky and Shelly Beaches. Bream and flathead off the boardwalk. Tailor and bream for the NE tip of Bribie. Whiting, bream and flathead along the golden beach stretch. Some good catches of sand crabs throughout the Pumicestone Passage.
