Local Fishing Report: Wednesday 2018-08-08

Offshore

Choppy conditions early but settling right down for the afternoon today with winds south to southwesterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots offshore early in the morning. Winds becoming variable below 10 knots in the middle of the day with inshore north to northeasterly sea breezes about 10 knots with seas 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing below 1 metre during the morning. Conditions tomorrow also looking good with winds west to northwesterly below 10 knots tending south to southwesterly 10 to 15 knots during the morning then tending south to southeasterly during the day and seas below 1 metre. With the improving conditions target good snapper with the odd 70cm fish on soft plastics at the Gneerings. The Hards have had moses perch, hussar, rosy jobfish, coral bream, good tuskies, gold spot wrasse, pearl perch, trag jew and snapper. There have been some good quality snapper and spanish mackerel as well as sweetlip, cobia and the odd coral trout caught close inshore off Sunshine Beach this week. North Reef's had good snapper, moses perch, tusk fish, pearl perch and cobia. Grass sweetlip, cobia, cod, quality snapper and tusk fish from the Barwon Banks. Snapper, cobia, pearl perch, tusk fish from Caloundra 12 mile. Snapper, grass sweetlp, moses perch and parrot from Murphy's.. Big grass sweetlip and nice keeper snapper around Old Women Island. Snapper and Sweetlip around Brays Rock.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Tailor, a few whiting and bream and dart along Teewah Beach. Try for luderick in the lower river. Some good whiting, bream and plenty of good quality flathead from throughout the river. Golden trevally to 65cm caught and release and an 89cm diamond trevally in the lower river also try in Noosa Sound. Bream around the bridges and rocky areas of the lower river.

Maroochydore: Try for tailor and bream from the sand bags and north shore.Try for some better quality whiting around Chambers Island Plenty of bream yesterday around 36cm, with better catches over night from the motorway bridge pylons and along Oyster bank road. Flathead went 69 cm and bream from around Channel Island.

Mooloolaba: Try for tailor along Kawana and Wurtulla Beach at dawn and dusk. A few good tailor and solid golden trevally in the lower river. Bream around McKenzies Bridge, the rock walls and the Kawana Boat Ramp. Average size grass sweetlip and big bream off the rocks at Point Cartwright. Gar in the La Balsa sand basin.

Caloundra: Whiting, bream and tailor along the beach between Currimundi and Moffat heads. Bream and tailor from Shelly Beach. Bream, tailor and flathead off the boardwalk. Bream, flathead and whiting along Golden beach. Trevally, cod, the odd tailor and bream in Pelican Waters Canal.
