Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2019-03-16


Conditions, will be okay today with a bit of northerly chop, with winds northerly 10 to 15 knots becoming east to northeasterly in the afternoon and seas 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing below 1 metre during the morning. Tomorrows conditions will be fantastic with winds northeasterly about 10 knots, with seas easterly around 1 metre and swells easterly around 1 metre. Chicko Vella, Davo's Tackle World had a great day out he says with humour, "Haven't been out for some weeks so the intentions were to shop around for some fresh fish. After a late start, our first pick drop was Sunshine Reef. Coral trout were on special so we put a couple of them in the basket, along with some tusk fish, a couple of brown sweetlip for good luck, one mackerel for steaks and a couple of cod for the chowder. North Reefs had pearl perch, Maori cod, venus tusk fish and snapper, moses perch, grass sweetlip and some thumper 60cm+ pearl perch. Cougar One fished Double Island Point where they caught horse scarlet sea perch or large mouth nannygai, plenty of big tusk fish, pearl perch, hussar, moses perch and sweetlip. Spanish, yellow fin tuna, cobia, and snapper off Coolum Reef. Cobia, wahoo, spotty mackerel from Caloundra 12 mile.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Been some good bream, trevally and several quality flathead around the 60cm size, from the river mouth, frying pan and in Woods Bays. Cod, jack and trevally in Weyba Creek. Mangrove jack and flathead between the lakes. A few mud crabs still on the move throughout the river.

Maroochydore: Giant trevelly, flathead to 62cm, tarpon and fighting queen fish and bream around the motorway bridge. Few good whiting and grunter in Eudlo Creek. Mangrove jack in all the creeks. Bream, jacks and flathead in the southern channel and from Cotton Tree. Reports of several good buck crabs throughout the river with one local taking 8 Keeper crabs in a week. 

Mooloolaba: Bream, trevally and cod from the boat moorings. Jacks and flathead in Mountain Creek. Jack, cod and flathead from the rocks bars in the upper river. Muddies throughout the Mooloolah River, particularly in the Kawana and Mooloolah canals.

Caloundra: With the hot and humid conditions there have been good mangrove jack, cod, bream and trevally in Pelican Waters canals and in the creeks that feed the Passage. Whiting, bream and flathead along Golden Beach flats. Bream and sweetlip from Shelly Beach.


Check out crazy keen angler, Camo (Cameron) Sullivan, on Wednesday this week fishing around the Maroochy Motorway bridge He landed a 62cm dusky flathead, a hard fighting Queen-fish (released) and his pb, 42cm whiting.
