Local Fishing Report: Tuesday 2019-04-09

Offshore

Fantastic conditions today with winds north to northeasterly about 10 knots increasing to 10 to 15 knots sea breeze in the early afternoon. Winds inshore tending west to northwesterly until mid morning and seas below 1 metre. Tomorrow conditions will be okay early, ahead of strengthening wind, with winds North to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots tending west to northwesterly early in the morning then shifting southeasterly 15 to 20 knots in the afternoon. Winds increasing to 20 to 25 knots in the evening and seas around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 2 metres by early evening. Dave McGregor was trolling a whole garfish behind his kayak along the Halls Reef stretch over the weekend where he caught a 19kg Spanish mackerel. Sunshine Reef, has had pearl perch, tusk fish, grass emperor, Moses perch, painted sweetlip, gold spot cod, snapper, coral trout, and as well as schools of long tail tuna and Spanish mackerel. North Reefs had grass sweetlip, snapper, pearl perch, moses perch, venus tusk fish, gold spot cod and a 10.5kg cobia. Spanish mackerel, yellow fin and long tail tuna, plenty of cobia, and snapper off Coolum Reef. Spanish and spotty mackerel, long tail tuna and cobia from Caloundra 12 mile. Double Island Point had some good catches of early season snapper, scarlet sea perch, moses perch, grass emperor, tusk fish, big gold spot cod, long tail tuna and Spanish and spotty mackerel.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Giant and diamond trevelly in the Woods Bay. Cod, jack and trevally in Weyba Creek. Mangrove jack and flathead between the lakes. The flood runoff, will have the mud crabs on the move throughout the river.

Maroochydore: Mangrove jack, in Petrie Creek, several quality, flathead, grunter bream and big eyed and diamond trevelly from the the mouth of Eudlo Creek and the Cod Hole. Few good whiting and trevally in the lower river on the incoming tide. Good mud crabs throughout the river.

Mooloolaba: Bream and trevally from around the boat moorings. Jacks and flathead in Mountain Creek. Jack, cod and several good flathead caught throughout the river. Muddies throughout the Mooloolah River, particularly in the Kawana and Mooloolah canals.

Caloundra: There still getting jack, cod, bream and trevally in the creeks that feed the Passage. Whiting, bream and flathead along Golden Beach flats. There are still good quality crabs feeding.

AlanWebster Buck Crabs Eudlo Creek

Alan Webster from the Maroochy RSL Fishing Club with a couple of quality Buck Crabs take up in Eudlo Creek and releasing heaps of females and undersize crabs on Sunday.
