2012 Fishing Reports

Local Fishing Report: Tuesday 24/04/2012

Noosa: Whiting and bream from the Frying pan on live nippers. Jacks, trevally and a few big flathead from Woods bay on live bait. Whiting and bream around Tewantin boat harbour.

Maroochydore: Big schools of herring have been moving through the river during the morning incoming tide which will bring see a few trevally and tailor on the chew. Good numbers of whiting and the odd flathead from Chambers Island. Mangrove jack, and trevally on trolled lures in Petrie creek and Coolum creek.

Kawana: Due to the large swell offshore fishing would not be advised. Jew and flathead from the twin bridges. Bream and flathead on soft plastics around the pontoons in the canals opposite of Mooloolaba boat ramp. Mud crabs throughout the upper river system.

Caloundra: Whiting and bream out from the Power boat club on live nippers and worms. Plenty of flathead have been moving around the lower and middle reaches. Try the canals for bream and trevally during the morning incoming tide.

Local Fishing Report: Monday 23/04/2012

Noosa: Quality snapper, sweetlip and coral trout form Sunshine Reef. Big flathead in the lower reaches and remember to released any big flathead over 75cm back into the system to breed . Jacks around the 2kg along the Tewantin Ski run and Woods bay. The odd Jewfish, tailor and dart from Teewah beach at night.

A few big female flathead pushing the 90cm mark have been caught and released from the River mouth. Mangrove jack, and trevally on trolled lures in Petrie creek and Coolum creek.

Kawana: The offshore fishing has been fantastic with plenty of snapper, sweetlip, amberjack and a few red emperor from the Blinker and the Barwon banks. Jew and flathead from the twin bridges. Flathead, bream and the odd tailor along Kawana Beach. Mud crabs throughout the upper river system.

Caloundra: A few good snapper and sweetlip from Currimundi Reef during the early mornings and late afternoons. Whiting, flathead and the occasional dart just north from Currimundi lake mouth entrance. Plenty of flathead have been moving around the lower and middle reaches. Mud crabs in the creeks.

Attachment: The Late Jimmy Underwood with a nice feed of Dart may his legacy live on.

Noosa: Big flathead in the lower reaches and remember to released any big flathead over 75cm back into the system to breed . Jacks around the 2kg along the Tewantin Ski run and Woods bay. The odd Jewfish, tailor and dart from Teewah beach at night.

Maroochydore: Tailor and jew along Mudjimba Beach. A few big female flathead pushing the 90cm mark have been caught and released from the River mouth. Mangrove jack, and trevally on trolled lures in Petrie creek. Bream from the cod hole boat ramp.

Kawana: The offshore fishing has been fantastic with plenty of snapper, sweetlip, amberjack and a few red emperor from the Blinker and the Barwon banks. Jew and flathead from the twin bridges. Moses perch from the Mooloolaba moorings. Mud crabs throughout the upper river system.

Attachment: Thomas had the fight of his life when he hooked this 9kg Spanish mackerel while fishing at Sunshine.

Local Fishing Report: Saturday 21/04/2012

Noosa: Whiting up to 38cm and a few big flathead in the lower reaches. Jacks around the 2kg along the Tewantin Ski run. Tailor north of Teewah. The odd Jewfish and dart from Teewah beach at night. Mud crabs the upper reaches.

Maroochydore: Tailor and jew along Mudjimba Beach. A few big female flathead pushing the 90cm mark have been caught and released from the River mouth. Tailor to 40cm and flathead in Petrie Creek. Bream from the cod hole boat ramp. Flathead and mud crabs in Maroochy Waters Canal.

Kawana: Bream and trevally from the Kawana boat ramp pontoon at night. Jew and flathead from the twin bridges. Moses perch from the Mooloolaba moorings. Mud crabs throughout the upper river system.

Caloundra: Whiting and flathead from Currimundi lake mouth entrance. Flathead, bream and trevally from Bells creek and the Boardwalk. Still plenty mud crabs and grunter throughout the upper reaches of the passage.

Attachment: Kimberly & Tina Goodwin were fishing opposite the entrance to Petrie Creek, when they hooked into this nice 40cm tailor.

Local Fishing Report: Thursday 19/04/2012

Noosa: The excellent offshore conditions have seen Sunshine and North reef fire with Mahi Mahi, coral trout, cobia and parrot. Whiting up to 38cm around the lower reaches and mangrove jack around the 2kg along the Tewantin Ski run. The odd Jewfish and dart from Teewah beach at night. Mud crabs the upper reaches.

Maroochydore: The mud crabs will be on the move after the heavy rains and the creeks will be sure to produce a few big bucks . Jewfish and the odd chopper tailor from Coolum beach and along Mudjimba. A few big female flathead pushing the 90cm mark have been caught and released from the River mouth. Jewfish around the 80cm mark from the Cod Hole at night.

Kawana: With excellent conditions the offshore fishing has excelled with some good catches of amberjack from the Blinker and Barwon banks along with snapper, sweetlip and odd mackerel. Bream and trevally from the Kawana boat ramp pontoon at night. Mud crabs throughout the upper river system.

Caloundra: Caloundra 12 mile has produced cobia, snapper, sweetlip and the odd mackerel. Whiting and flathead from Currimundi lake mouth entrance. Flathead, bream and trevally from Bells creek and the Boardwalk. Still plenty mud crabs and grunter throughout the upper reaches of the passage.
