2013 Fishing Reports

Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2013-12-07

Offshore

Today is looking like the best day for offshore for a while, with easterly 15 to 20 knots decreasing to about 10 knots early in the morning then increasing to 10 to 15 knots again in the late afternoon. So be ready to chase a few spotty and school mackerel around the NW Fairway Buoy and Old Woman Island, spotty mackerel, red throat emperor and sweetlip on Coolum Reef, snapper, grassy sweetlip, spotty and school mackerel at Murphys, Sunshine and North Reefs.

Estuary's:

Noosa: Trevally, flathead, bream, whiting and school jew at the Noosa River mouth. Bream and flathead in the Frying Pan. Whiting, mangrove jack and some excellent Flathead to 68cm from Weyba Creek and flathead, bream and school jew along the Tewantin reach.

Maroochydore: Dart, and flathead along Mudjimba and Marcoola Beaches. Whiting to 39cm between Chambers and Goat Islands. Mud crabs in the creeks. Flathead at the mouth of the creeks, jack in Petrie Creek and jack and mud crabs in the upper reaches of the river.

Kawana: Dart and whiting along the beaches and trevally and bream in the upper reaches of the Mooloolah River. Bream and a few reasonable trevally feeding around the mooring. Jacks in the upper river and Kawana Waters. A few sand crabs in the lower river whiting and flathead along the beaches and bream in the lower reaches of the Mooloolah River.

Caloundra: A few sweetlip off the rocks at Shelly Beach, bream, dart and whiting along Dicky Beach, dart and bream at the northern end of Bribie Island. Try for flathead and queenfish on live bait along the Boardwalk, whiting off the banks near Military Jetty and mangrove jack at the entrance to the canals and the creeks that enter the Passage.

Local Fishing Report: Friday 2013-12-06

Offshore

There hasn't been much action lately however, Sunday is looking like the best day so far! Today east to southeasterly 15 to 20 knots with seas 1.5 to 2 metres. Then on Sunday, easterly 10 to 15 knots decreasing to about 10 knots during the morning, with seas to 1metre, is looking like reasonable offshore conditions.

Estuary's:

Noosa: Trevally, flathead, bream, whiting and school jew at the Noosa River mouth. Bream and flathead in the Frying Pan. Whiting, mangrove jack and some excellent Flathead to 68cm from Weyba Creek and flathead, bream and school jew along the Tewantin reach.

Maroochydore: Dart, tarwhine and flathead along Mudjimba and Marcoola Beaches. Plenty of average flathead from the creek mouths. Whiting to 39cm between Chambers and Goat Islands. Mud crabs in the creeks. Some good jack in the creek and upper reachers.

Kawana: Dart and whiting along the beaches and trevally and bream in the upper reaches of the Mooloolah River. Bream and a few reasonable trevally feeding around the mooring. Jacks in the upper river and Kawana Waters. A few sand crabs in the lower river.

Caloundra: Try for bream and dart along the beaches and whiting off the tip of Bribie Island and at Bells Creek mouth. Trevally around the Coastguard Jetty and Bulcock Beach. Jacks and muddies in the creeks that run into the Passage. Queenfish and flathead around the boardwalk area.

Offshore

Far to rough for offshore fishing.

Estuary's:

Noosa: Trevally, flathead, bream, whiting and school jew at the Noosa River mouth. Bream and flathead in the Frying Pan. Whiting and mangrove jack in Weyba Creek and flathead, bream and school jew along the Tewantin reach.

Jeff 50cm Jack Cod Hole

The jacks a have been feeding really well on live bait in the cod hole with the hot humid days.

Offshore

With strong north and northwesterly winds blowing and solid 1.5m seas, condition aren't very favorable for boating in offshore waters.

Noosa: Trevally, flathead, bream, whiting and school jew at the Noosa River mouth. Bream and flathead in the Frying Pan. Whiting and mangrove jack in Weyba Creek and flathead, bream and school jew along the Tewantin reach.

Dylan Bryon 42cm Trevally Sunshine Motorway

Dylan Bryon was floating a live herring under the Sunshine Motorway bridge when he caught this 42cm big eyed trevally.

Local Fishing Report: Tuesday 2013-12-03

Offshore

Southeasterly 10 to 15 knots becoming variable about 10 knots early in the morning then becoming north to northeasterly 15 to 20 knots in the middle of the day. Then tomorrow the northerly 15 to 25 knots increasing to 20 to 30 knots in the early afternoon then tending northwesterly 15 to 25 knots in the evening. So there could be some windows of opportunity to fish early morning and close inshore for mackerel.

Estuary's:

Noosa: Trevally and jew at the Noosa River mouth, flathead and around the Frying Pan. Whiting and mangrove jack in Weyba Creek and flathead, bream and school jew along the Tewantin reach.

Maroochydore: Try for dart and tarwhine along Mudjimba and Marcoola Beaches. Plenty of average flathead from the creek mouths. Whiting around Bli Bli and Goat and Channel Island. Sand and mud crabs and mangrove jack throughout the middle and upper river.

Kawana: Dart and whiting along the beaches and trevally and bream in the upper reaches of the Mooloolah River. Bream and a few golden trevally from the mooring. Trevally and jacks around McKenzies Bridge area. A few sand crabs in the lower river. Mud crabs in the deep holes in the upper reaches.

Caloundra: Bream and dart near the entrance to Currimundi Lake and whiting off the tip of Bribie Island and at Bells Creek mouth. Try for flathead and trevally around the Coastguard Jetty and Bulcock Beach.Target mangrove jack in the creek and sand crabs in the channels.
