Local Fishing Report: Friday 2014-01-10

Offshore

Saturday's forecast is for Southeasterly 10 to 15 knots turning easterly in the afternoon and evening. Seas around 1 metre. So as with yesterday afternoons conditions it should be a good break from the rough windy conditions we have been experiencing the past week!.

Estuary's:

Noosa: Flathead and trevally in Weyba Creek and mangrove jack between Lakes Cooroibah and Cootharaba and a few bass in the everglades. Bream, good trevally flathead and whiting to 40cm at the Noosa River mouth and around Woods Pt. Bream and trevally in Weyba Creek.

Maroochydore: Dart along the northern beaches. Big flathead and a few grunter bream form Bli Bli, also plenty of school flathead and the odd golden trevally in the lower river yesterday. Whiting around the Black bank and Goat and Channel Island. Mangrove jack from Bli Bli, Twin Waters canals, in Petrie Creek and in the cod hole. Mud crabs in the mid to upper reaches of the Maroochy River.

Kawana: Try for dart, whiting and flathead along the beaches. Bream in the lower reaches of the Mooloolah River and whiting in the canals. Jack in the in Kawana Waters and around the bridges in Currimundi Lake. A few crabs in canal systems and lower river.

Caloundra: Dart and whiting off the NE tip of Bribie Island and some good flathead around the 60cm mark between Caloundra Bar and Bells Creek mouth. A few grunter around Military Jetty and the Boardwalk and trevally on the incoming tide in the canals and creek mouths. Put the crab pots in the creeks for a few muddies.

Offshore

Easterly 15 to 20 knots turning southeasterly and 1-1.5m seas in the morning with 10 to 15 knots and 1m seas by the afternoon. Weather conditions look best for late afternoon fish and should continue throughout Saturday.

Estuary's:

Noosa: Flathead and trevally in Weyba Creek and mangrove jack between Lakes Cooroibah and Cootharaba. Bream, flathead and whiting at the Noosa River mouth, flathead and bream along the Tewantin reach and flathead, bream and trevally in Weyba Creek.

Maroochydore: Dart, bream and tarwhine along Mudjimba Beach. Big flathead and a few grunter bream form Bli Bli. Whiting and a few flathead in the lower river. Anglers Advantage Fishing Charters Sunshine Coast-Jayden Sharp-Grunter Bream 8-01-2014

Grunter bream have been on the move in the middle Maroochy with this solid fish taking a 3" plastic on an Anglers Advantage Charter.

Offshore

Southeasterly 15 to 20 knots. Seas 1.5 to 2 metres, decreasing below 1.5 metres during the morning, then decreasing below 1 metre during the afternoon. It will be Saturday before the conditions ease to Easterly 10 to 15 knots and decrease to about 10 knots during the afternoon.

Estuary's:

Tuesday may be okay early close in, with variable winds about 10 knots becoming southeasterly 15 to 25 knots in the morning. Winds reaching up to 30 knots during the afternoon and evening. Below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 2 metres during the morning, then increasing to 2 to 3 metres during the afternoon.

North to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots, reaching 25 knots at times in the early morning, before shifting southeast to southwesterly from the south before dawn then tending east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the late afternoon. Winds tending northwest to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the evening. Seas will be from 1 to 1.5m.

Estuary's:

Noosa: Bream, some big flathead around 60cm, trevally, tailor and jew at Noosa River mouth and in Woods Bay, with bream, the odd tailor, and moses perch in Weyba Creek. Try for flathead and bream along the Noosaville reach. Jack to 50cm and flathead between the lakes.

Maroochydore: Big whiting to 38cm and a few flathead in the lower river. Dart, bream and tarwhine along Mudjimba Beach. Mangrove jack along the Bli Bli reach to 50cm, 49 in Petrie Creek and 45cm along Godfreys Road. Mud crabs in the mid to upper reaches of the Maroochy River.

Kawana: Bream and a few reasonable trevally feeding around the mooring. Jack in the in Kawana Waters and around the bridges in Currimundi Lake. A few whiting to 37cm in Mountain Creek and the canal system. A few crabs in canal systems and lower river.

Caloundra: Whiting on the sand banks and drop offs in top end of the passage, off the banks near Military Jetty, along Golden Beach stretch. Mangrove jack in Bell's Creek, Pelican Waters and up Coochin Creek. A few school jew in the Jew Hole over night. Large flathead in the channel south of Bells Creek.

The hot days have had the mangrove jack chewing their heads off in the Maroochy River with Jamie Whateley catching this good fish in the middle river on Anglers Advantage Charters.

May be better to stay in port with a Strong Wind Warning continuing for Saturday in Sunshine Coast Waters. Northerly 25 to 30 knots, decreasing to 15 to 20 knots in the late evening with seas 2 to 3 metres, decreasing below 2 metres later in the evening.

Estuary's:

Noosa: Bream, some big flathead around 60cm, trevally, tailor and jew at Noosa River mouth and in Woods Bay, with bream, the odd tailor, and moses perch in Weyba Creek. Try for flathead and bream along the Noosaville reach. Jack to 50cm and flathead between the lakes.

Maroochydore: There have been good catches of big whiting to 38cm in the lower river. Flathead, bream and tarwhine in the deep holes along the beaches. Try for flathead, grunter, bream and mangrove jack along the Bli Bli reach, mangrove jack to 49cm in Petrie Creek and mud crabs in the mid to upper reaches of the Maroochy River.
