Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2014-11-01

Offshore

Winds northerly 20 to 25 knots early, reaching up to 30 knots. Winds shifting south to southeasterly 20 to 25 knots in the late morning, reaching 30 knots at times. Seas 1.5 to 2.5 metres with 1m of east/southeast swell.

Estuaries

Noosa: Whiting on Main Beach and along Teewah Beach. Flathead cale cale, golden trevally and whiting at the Noosa River mouth. Flathead, whiting, tailor and trevally in Woods Bay. Jacks and trevally in Weyba Creek. A few jacks in between the lakes and at the entrance to the Marina.

Maroochydore: Queenfish an bream to 39cm from around the Twin Waters area. Chopper tailor, flathead, tarpon, trevally and estuary cod in the Cod Hole. School jew over night from upper Bli Bli. Whiting off Chambers Island, from Cotton Tree and Picnic Point. Flathead in the creek mouths. Mud crabs in the upper reaches.

Kawana: Whiting and jacks in Currimundi Lake. Flathead and mangrove jack in Kawana Canals and in Mountain Creek. Jacks in lake Kawana. Trevally around McKenzies Bridge. Plenty of bream from the moorings.

Caloundra: Flathead and bream along the Boardwalk. Whiting off the sand banks in the top end of the Passage, from the mouth of Bells Creek and along Golden Beach. Flathead at the mouth of Bells Creek. Mangrove jack in Pelican Waters, Bells and Coochin Creeks.

Luke Miles Smith Tarpon

Luke and Miles Smith had a good session fishing in the cod hole over night with a few trevally and this 1.5kg Tarpon which put up a aerobatic fight.

Offshore

Strong Wind Warning for today in Sunshine Coast Waters with winds northerly 15 to 25 knots, increasing to 25 to 30 knots during the afternoon and evening. Seas 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2.5 metres around midday. Been some good quality fish on local rees in the past few days with big tusk fish and amberjack on Chardon’s reef

Estuaries

Looks like the conditions are dying down today with west to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots becoming variable about 10 knots before dawn then becoming southeasterly 15 to 20 knots in the middle of the day. Seas are 1-1.5m with 1m of swell.

Noosa: Big flathead caught and released, trevally, whiting and small cobia at the Noosa River mouth. Flathead, tailor and trevally in Woods Bay. Jacks and trevally in Weyba Creek. School jew and jacks between the lakes. Bass from the everglades.

Maroochydore: Plenty of herring bait schooling up around Chambers Island. Trevally and school jew over night from Bli Bli and the Cod Hole. Jacks and flathead in Petrie Creek. Strong Wind Warning again for today in Sunshine Coast Waters with a northeast to northwesterly 15 to 25 knots, reaching up to 30 knots in the morning. Seas 2 to 3 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres around midday. So still uncomfortable boating conditions today, better to stay in sheltered waters.

Noosa: Big flathead caught and released, trevally, and whiting at the Noosa River mouth. Flathead to 81cm, brim to 35cm, a few good tailor and trevally in Woods Bay. Jacks and trevally in Weyba Creek. School jew and jacks between the lakes. Bass from the everglades.

Maroochydore: Plenty of herring bait schooling up around Chambers Island. Trevally and school jew from Bli Bli and the Cod Hole. Jacks and flathead in Petrie Creek. Whiting off Chambers Island, from Cotton Tree and Picnic Point. Flathead in Maroochy Waters. Mud crabs in the upper reaches.

Offshore

Okay early but could be a bit choppy particularly in the afternoon and night as winds will be northeasterly 10 to 15 knots turning northerly 15 to 20 knots early in the morning. Winds reaching up to 25 knots inshore in the evening. Seas 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres during the afternoon. There have been good catches the past few days of a 15kg mulloway, good red throat emperor, snapper, sweetlip, tuna and big cobia from North Reef There have been red throat emperor, tuskfish, moses perch and gold spotted wrasse on the Barwon Banks.  Sweetlip, snapper, tuskies and big estuary cod on the Gneerings and off Caloundra 12 mile  Cobia, snapper and pearl perch at Caloundra Wide and 12 Mile.

Estuaries

Noosa: Last night's New Moon phase will have the fish feeding particularly over night for the next few days. Flathead caught and released yesterday 80 and 88cm at the Noosa River mouth. Flathead, bream and trevally along the Noosaville reach and in Woods Bay. Jack and bream in Weyba Creek. Flathead and bream along the Tewantin reach. Bass, and flathead from the everglades.

Maroochydore: Plenty of herring bait fish including bigger ones to 15cm schooling up around Chambers Island. Trevally and school jew over night from Bli Bli and the Cod Hole. Jacks and flathead in Petrie Creek. Whiting off Chambers Island. Whiting, bream and flathead from Picnic Point. Mud crabs in the upper reaches.

This monster 94cm dusky flathead was feeding in the Mooloolah River with Trent from Top Catch Charters releasing it this week.

Winds are north to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots with  seas are around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the afternoon. There have been red throat emperor, tuskfish, moses perch and gold spotted wrasse on the Barwon Banks. A few quality snapper and tuna in Luguna Bay. There have been good catches the past few days of snapper, sweetlip, tuna and big cobia from North Reef.  Sweetlip, snapper, tuskies and big estuary cod on the Gneerings and off Caloundra 12 mile  Cobia, snapper and pearl perch at Caloundra Wide and 12 Mile.

More rough conditions this morning with 1.5m to 2m seas and southeasterly winds at 20 to 25 knots, decreasing to 15 to 20 knots during the morning and 10 to 15 knots during the evening. A few quality snapper and tuna in Luguna Bay. There have been good catches the past few days of snapper, sweetlip, tuna and big cobia from North Reef.  Sweetlip, snapper, tuskies and big estuary cod on the Gneerings and off Caloundra 12 mile  Cobia, snapper and pearl perch at Caloundra Wide and 12 Mile.

Estuaries

Noosa: Theres been plenty of quality flathead caught and released between 60 and 85cm recently at the Noosa River mouth. Flathead, bream and trevally along the Noosaville reach and in Woods Bay. Jack and bream in Weyba Creek. Flathead and bream along the Tewantin reach. Bass, bream and flathead from the everglades.

Maroochydore: Bream, flathead and school jew at the cod hole. Jacks and flathead in Petrie Creek. Bream in the channels between Chambers Island and the mouth. Whiting around the dredge at Picnic Point and along the black banks. Mud crabs in the upper reaches.

Kawana: Dart and whiting along the beaches. Trevally along the rock walls at the mouth of the Mooloolah River and mud crabs in the canals. The odd tailor, bream and grass sweetlip from around Point Cartwright. A few big flathead, trevally and bream from McKenzie's bridge area.

Caloundra: Flathead along the Boardwalk. Whiting from Golden and Bulcock beaches. Whiting and flathead at the mouth of Bells Creek. Mangrove jack and schools of trevally around Pelican Waters Bridge.

Kawana: Dart and whiting along the beaches. Trevally along the rock walls at the mouth of the Mooloolah River and mud crabs in the canals. The odd tailor, bream and grass sweetlip from around Point Cartwright. A few big flathead, trevally and bream from McKenzie's bridge area.
