Local Fishing Report: Wednesday 2014-10-08

Offshore

Southeasterly winds will 15 to 20 knots. Seas 1.5 to 2 metres with 1m of easterly swell. Big pearl perch, Maori Cod and tusk fish  from North Reef yesterday. Snapper to 7.1kg and cobia and jew also to 7kg taken  from The Coffee’s out from Noosa. Snapper at Chardons Reef. Sweetlip, snapper, tuskies and big estuary cod on the Gneerings and off Caloundra. Big cobia, sweetlip and pearl perch on sunshine reef.  Cobia, snapper and pearl perch at Caloundra Wide and 12 Mile, longtail tuna off Mooloolaba. Big yellowtail kingfish, snapper and pearl perch form the hards. Snapper and pearlies on the banks.

Estuaries

Noosa: Bream, whiting to 40cm and trevally around 2kg at the Noosa River mouth. Whiting, bream, flathead and trevally along the Noosaville reach and in Woods Bay, in the Frying Pan and off Munna Point. Jack and flathead in between the lakes. Whiting to 43cm, cod moses perch and bream in Weyba Creek. Flathead and bream along the Tewantin reach. A few mud crabs in the creeks and upper river.

Maroochydore: Dusky flathead in the lower Maroochy and around Bli Bli. Trevally and tailor in the 2kg range in the Cod Hole and Godfrey's Road. Flathead, jacks and a few chopper tailor showing up in Petrie Creek. Whiting around Goat and Channel Island over night. Mud crabs in the middle and upper river.

Kawana: Bream still around the moorings. Bream and grass sweetlip from Point Cartwright. Big flathead, trevally to 2kg and bream 30cm from McKenzie's bridge area and Minyama Island. Whiting and flathead in sand basin and in Mountain Creek.

Caloundra: Whiting throughout the northern Passage, with best results over night. Squid off the rocks at Kings, Moffat and Shelly Beaches, flathead on the NE tip of Bribie Island and on soft plastics along the drop offs in Pumicestone Passage, Grunter bream along Roys reach, flathead at Bells Creek mouth and entrance to Pelican Waters Canals and mangrove jack around Pelican Waters Bridge.

Yesterday a 43cm whiting was taken in Weyba Creek an there,s also been flathead and bream along the Tewantin reach and a few bream, flathead, estuary cod and moses perch in Weyba Creek. Few mud crabs in the creeks and upper river.

Maroochydore: Dusky flathead in the lower Maroochy and around Bli Bli. Several trevally and tailor in the 2kg range yesterday in the Cod Hole and Godfrey's Road. Flathead, jacks and a few chopper tailor showing up in Petrie Creek. Whiting around Goat and Channel Island over night. Mud crabs in the middle and upper river.

Kawana: Still getting big bream still around the moorings. Big flathead, trevally to 2kg and bream 30cm from McKenzie's bridge area and Minyama Island. Whiting and flathead in sand basin and in Mountain Creek. It's worth targeting mangrove jack in the creeks.

Caloundra: Whiting throughout the northern Passage, with best results over night. Strong Wind Warning for today for Sunshine Coast Waters. Winds will be Southeasterly 15 to 25 knots, reaching up to 30 knots early in the morning. Winds turning easterly 10 to 15 knots in the evening.  Seas 2 to 3 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the morning, then decreasing below 1 metre by early evening. Looks like great conditions for Friday abnd Saturday. There’s been sweetlip, snapper, tuskies and big estuary cod on the Gneerings and off Caloundra. Coral trout and snapper from The Coffee’s out from Noosa. Big cobia, sweetlip and a the odd pearl perch on sunshine reef.

Big cobia, sweetlip and a the odd pearl perch on Sunshine reef. Coral trout, amberjack, moses perch, hussar and pearl perch caught early morning at the Outer Gneerings.  Sweetlip, snapper, tuskies and big estuary cod wide of Caloundra.

Estuaries

Noosa: Tailor, flathead, bream, whiting and trevally at the Noosa River mouth. Quality whiting, bream, flathead and trevally along the Noosaville reach and in Woods Bay, in the Frying Pan and off Munna Point. Jack and flathead in between the lakes. Flathead and bream along the Tewantin reach and a few bream, flathead, estuary cod and moses perch in Weyba Creek.

Maroochydore: Trevally to 2kg at the river mouth and through the northern channel between Twin Waters and the Cod Hole. Schools of flathead to 50cm in the lower Maroochy and along Godfreys Road on low tide. A few mangrove jacks showing up in Petrie Creek and from Bli Bli. Plenty of bream throughout the river. Some good trevally around the twin bridge and Minyama Island. Still getting big bream still around the moorings. Flathead to 76cm released, trevally and bream 26 to 30cm from McKenzie's bridge area. Whiting and flathead in sand basin and in Mountain Creek.

Whiting along the Noosaville stretch. Trevally, whiting to 37cm and bream to 40cm in Woods Bays. Jacks and flathead in between the lakes.

Maroochydore: Reasonable catches of 40 to 50 cm dusky flathead in the lower Maroochy at present. Trevally to 55cm in the Cod Hole and downstream to Chambers Island. Caloundra: Squid around the rocks at Moffat and Kings Beaches. A few trevally and mangrove jack in Pelican Waters. Bream from Military jetty and in the Blue hole. Chopper tailor along the Boardwalk, flathead on soft plastics near the Coastguard Jetty. Whiting on the middle bank out from Military Jetty, mouth of Bells Creek and northern tip of Bribie.

Maroochydore: Reasonable catches of 40 to 50 cm dusky flathead in the lower Maroochy at present. Trevally to 55cm in the Cod Hole and downstream to Chambers Island. Flathead and jacks showing up in Petrie Creek and from Bli Bli. Plenty of bream throughout the river. Whiting around Goat and Channel Island over night. Flathead at twin waters weir. Mud crabs in the middle and upper river

Kawana: Some good trevally around the twin bridge and minyama Island. Still getting big bream still around the moorings. Flathead to 65cm, trevally and bream26 to 30cm from McKenzie's bridge area. Whiting and flathead in sand basin and in Mountain Creek.

Caloundra: Squid around the rocks at Moffat and Kings Beaches. A few trevally and mangrove jack in Pelican Waters. Bream from Military jetty and in the Blue hole. Chopper tailor along the Boardwalk, flathead on soft plastics near the Coastguard Jetty. Whiting on the middle bank out from Military Jetty, mouth of Bells Creek and northern tip of Bribie.
