Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2014-09-25

Offshore

Winds will be west to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots, reaching up to 25 knots offshore early in the morning. Winds shifting south to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the middle of the day. Seas are 1m and 0.5m increasing to 1.5m of swell.

Estuaries

Noosa: Tailor, flathead and golden trevally at the river mouth. Quality whiting in the Frying Pan and off Munna Point. Whiting along the Noosaville stretch. Trevally, whiting to 37cm and bream to 40cm in Woods Bays. Jacks and flathead in between the lakes.

Maroochydore: Trevally to 55cm in the cod hole. Flathead and jacks in Petrie Creek and from Bli Bli. Bream throughout the river. Whiting around Goat and Channel Island over night. Flathead at twin waters weir. Mud crabs in the middle and upper river. Bream and flathead around Eudlo Creek bridge.

Kawana: Some good trevally around the twin bridge and minyama Island. Big bream still around the moorings. Flathead, trevally and bream from McKenzie's bridge area. Whiting and flathead in sand basin and in Mountain Creek.

Caloundra: Squid around the rocks at Moffat and Kings Beaches. A few trevally and mangrove jack in Pelican Waters. Bream from Military jetty and in the Blue hole. Chopper tailor along the Boardwalk, flathead on soft plastics near the Coastguard Jetty. Whiting on the middle bank out from Military Jetty, mouth of Bells Creek and northern tip of Bribie.

Offshore

Get out early before the strong northerly winds. Winds are north to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots tending north to northwesterly 20 to 25 knots during the day. Seas are 1m increasing to 1-2m by midday and swell in 1m from the SE.

56 cm gt from lower reaches of mooloolah river

Trent from Top Catch Charters took a bit of time off work to chase GT's in the lower Mooloolah River with this 56cm specimen to show off.

It will be a bit choppy again today with winds southeasterly 15 to 20 knots. Seas 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing to 1 metre around midday. Swells southeasterly 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres offshore. Winds easing back tomorrow, but today it’s better to stay in more sheltered waters.

Offshore

Winds are northerly 10 to 15 knots becoming variable about 10 knots early in the morning then becoming southeasterly 15 to 20 knots in the morning. Seas below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres by early evening. There’s been cobia to 15kg and plenty of snapper on North Reef. Top Catch Charters have reported pearl perch, squire, tusk fish, amberjack, trevally, hussar and moses perch from the Barwon Banks. Squire, tuskfish, pearl perch, cobia, cod, maori cod, moses perch, and hussar from Caloundra 9 and 12 miles. Squire, pearl perch, moses perch, hussar and kingfish from Murphy’s Reef.

Estuaries

Noosa: Tailor to 55cm at the river mouth yesterday, Golden trevally to 56cm off Gympie terrace and excellent quality whiting in the Frying Pan. Try for mangrove jack in the creeks over the weekend. Whiting along the Noosaville stretch. Flathead, Cale Cale, golden, diamond and giant trevally in Woods Bays. Quality bream from the Marina, in the channel at Tewantin and in Lake Cooroibah.

Maroochydore: Bream, plenty of big flathead and whiting to 37cm in lower river. A few trevally feeding throughout the river particularly around the Cod Hole and in the south channel. Flathead and mangrove jack in Petire Creek. Sand crabs are still on the move in the lower river and at Godfries Rd. A few good mud crab throughout. Flathead from Chambers Island.

Kawana: Some good trevally to 2kg feeding in the lower river. Big bream still around the moorings on the incoming tide particularly over night. Bream and a few tailor around the high tide from the rock wall. Whiting and flathead in sand basin. Sand crabs in the lower river and mud crabs in the canals and around Kawana Way.

Caloundra: A few trevally on the high tide in Pelican Waters. Bream and whiting on the banks opposite Golden Beach and off the tip of Bribie. Flathead and whiting in Bells Creek. Mangrove jack, golden trevally and mud crab in the creeks that lead into the passage. Whiting and flathead in Currimundi Lake.

Seas will be decreasing to 1m by midday, with a 1-1.5m E/SE swell. There have been reports of tuna feeding close in along the coast. Good snapper, sweetlip and parrot from the Blinker. Snapper, Spanish mackerel and tusk fish from Sunshine Beach. Tusk fish, snapper, Maori Cod from the Caloundra 9 mile.

Cale Cale Woods Bays

Cale Cale and other species of trevally have been very active in Woods Bays this week with the locals have plenty of fun on light gear.

Offshore

Choppy conditions today with winds northerly 15 to 20 knots, reaching up to 25 knots offshore in the late evening and Seas and swell 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1 to 2 metres offshore by early evening. There have been reports of tuna feeding close in along the coast. The Barwon Banks have had some good catch’s of snapper, cobia, tusk fish pearlies and parrot. Massoud’s Reef produced quality pearl perch and Maori cod.  Good snapper, sweetlip and parrot from the Blinker. Snapper, Spanish mackerel and tusk fish from Sunshine Beach. Tusk fish, snapper, Maori Cod from the Caloundra 9 mile.

Great conditions with winds variable about 10 knots becoming north to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the early afternoon and Seas and swell below 1 metre, increasing to around 1 metre by early evening.  Reports of tuna feeding close in along the coast. The Barwon Banks have had some good catch’s of snapper, cobia, tusk fish pearlies and parrot. Massoud’s Reef produced quality pearl perch and Maori cod.  Good snapper, sweetlip and parrot from the Blinker. Snapper, Spanish mackerel and tusk fish from Sunshine Beach. Winds will be East to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots tending east to northeasterly during the afternoon and evening. Seas and swell will be around the 1m mark. Massoud’s Reef produced quality pearl perch and Maori cod.  Good snapper, sweetlip and parrot from the Blinker. Snapper, Spanish mackerel and tusk fish from Sunshine Beach. Tusk fish, snapper, Maori Cod from the Caloundra 9 mile.
