Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2015-08-12

Offshore

Strong Wind Warning early today for Sunshine Coast Waters before easing back in the afternoon, Conditions will be fairly choppy out wide with west to southwesterly 20 to 25 knots, reaching up to 30 knots in the morning. Winds tending south to southwesterly 15 to 20 knots during the day. Seas 2 to 3 metres, decreasing to 1 to 2 metres around midday. When conditions improve  remember, Andy Gunn fished Caloundra wide for top quality snapper to 7kg and a few cobia morning. Scarlet sea perch or large mouth nannygai taken on Wild Thing 2 charter to North Reef. Noosa River Fishing Safaris boated this snapper at Sunshine Reef. There's been golden trevally, sweetlip and snapper from Old Women Island. School mackerel and tailor from the coffee rock patches off Maroochydore. School mackerel and sweetlip from Currimundi Reef. There's still plenty of winter action at the moment with snapper, pearl perch and tusk fish making up majority of catches, with all reefs  producing bigger fish at dawn and dusk.

Estuaries

Noosa: Bream, good flathead and a 71cm golden trevally taken on top of the tide at the Noosa River mouth, trevally, tailor and flathead in Woods bay. Munna Point and Frying Pan. Still worth trying for luderick at the river mouth car park rocks. Bream around the structures and deeper holes, flathead and bream at Munna Point and in Weyba Creek. Flathead have been on the bite in Lake Cooroibah, where there chasing hard bodies and soft plastics in the shallow water.

Maroochydore: The lead up to the new moon this Saturday will have the fish on the bite from now right through the weekend. Tailor and jew at night off the beaches. Bream, trevally, tailor and flathead in the Cod Hole. A few tailor off Chambers Island and in the Cod Hole at night and bream to 650g from around Bli Bli. Flathead to 55cm Eudlo Creek mouth and plenty of fish in the mid 40 range in Petrie Creek. Still a few good muddies in the upper reaches and full bucks in the Maroochy Waters Canals. Try for sand crabs in the lower river.

Kawana: There have been bream and tailor along the beaches and off the rocks at Point Cartwright. Still getting quality bream some up to 40cm and tailor particularly over night off the rock walls at the river mouth, along the La Balsa Park and around the trawler moorings. Golden trevally and a few squid around the river mouth. Flathead, bream and gar in the Basin. Bream and quality flathead from McKenzies Bridge. S

Caloundra: Chopper tailor, bream and a few jew along the beaches and off the tip of Bribie, best overnight or dawn and dusk. Good flathead to 65cm around the banks in the Passage, bream between the Blue Hole and Power Boat Club. Luderick along the Boardwalk and trevally in the canals. Good catches of quality bream and a few sand crabs throughout Passage.

More good conditions with 10 knot variable winds turning NW/NE at 10-15 knots in the afternoon. Seas below 1 metre. Noosa River Fishing Safaris boated this snapper at Sunshine Reef. There's been golden trevally, sweetlip and snapper from Old Women Island. School mackerel and tailor from the coffee rock patches off Maroochydore. School mackerel and sweetlip from Currimundi Reef. While the crew from Top Catch Charters reports there's plenty of winter action at the moment with snapper, pearl perch and tusk fish making up majority of catches, with all reefs  producing bigger fish at dawn and dusk. Murphies has seen good snapper to 6kg, pearl perch, tusk fish, sweetlip and moses perch. Caloundra 9 mile and 12 mile reefs  producing the same as well including hussar, Maori cod and gold spot wrasse. Out wide there have been snapper, big pearl perch, amberjack, tuskfish, fusilier, moses perch, hussar, gold spot wrasse and job fish on the Barwon Banks and snapper, pearl perch and trag jew from Caloundra Wide.

Bream, dart and chopper tailor are feeding along the beaches. Bream, good flathead and trevally on top of the tide at the Noosa River mouth, Munna Point and Frying Pan. Luderick are on at the river mouth car park rocks. Bream around the structures and deeper holes, flathead and bream at Munna Point and in Weyba Creek. At Lake Cooroibah, pan size flathead were chasing hard bodies and soft plastics in the shallow water.

Maroochydore: Tailor and jew at night off the beaches. Reports of jew or perhaps barra smashing bait fish in the south channel of the river through this week. Try for luderick, bream and flathead in the Cod Hole on bait and trevally and tailor on micro jig around the top of the tide. A few tailor and bream to 650g from around Bli Bli. Flathead to 55cm on mullet strips or pilchards also smash bait minnows from the mouth of Eudlo Creek, Bli Bli and Cotton Tree. Still a few good muddies in the upper reaches and 2 nice bucks in the Maroochy Waters Canals. Sand crabs in the lower river.

Noosa: Bream and chopper tailor are feeding along the beaches. Bream, good flathead and plenty of trevally on top of the tide at the Noosa River mouth, Munna Point and Frying Pan. Luderick are on at the river mouth car park rocks. Bream around the structures and deeper holes, flathead and bream at Munna Point and in Weyba Creek. At Lake Cooroibah, pan size flathead were chasing hard bodies and soft plastics in the shallow water.

Maroochydore: Tailor and jew at night off the beaches. Luderick, bream and flathead in the Cod Hole on bait and trevally and tailor on micro jig around the top of the tide. A few tailor yesterday around Bli Bli. Flathead to 55cm on smash bait minnows from the mouth of Eudlo Creek, Bli Bli and Cotton Tree. Bream to 650g from Bli Bli reach. Still a few good muddies in the upper reaches and from Channel Island. Sand crabs in the lower river.

Kawana: There have been bream, school mackerel, chopper tailor along the beaches and off the rocks at Point Cartwright and bream and tailor to 50cm off the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth, along the La Balsa Park reach and around the trawler moorings. Golden trevally and squid are in numbers around the river mouth. Flathead, bream and gar in the Basin. Bream and quality flathead from McKenzies Bridge. Sand crabs in the lower river.

Caloundra: School mackerel and sweetlip off Shelly Beach. Chopper tailor, bream and jew along the beaches and off the tip of Bribie, best overnight or dawn and dusk. Good flathead around the banks in the Passage, bream between the Blue Hole and Power Boat Club. Luderick along the Boardwalk and trevally in the canals. Good catches of quality bream and a few sand crabs throughout Passage.

Yep, the crews on Top Catch Charters have done it again taking some good quality pearl perch from Caloundra wide.

Offshore

Could be a bit choppy particularly out wide today with better conditions this evening with winds southwesterly 15 to 20 knots turning south to southeasterly early in the morning then tending south to southwesterly in the late evening. Seas 1 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1 metre by early evening. Golden trevally, sweetlip and snapper from Old Women Island. School mackerel and sweetlip from Currimundi Reef. The crew from Top Catch Charters reports there's plenty of winter action at the moment with snapper, pearl perch and tusk fish making up majority of catches, with all reefs  producing bigger fish at dawn and dusk. Murphies has seen snapper to 6kg, pearl perch, tusk fish, sweetlip and moses perch. Caloundra 9 mile and 12 mile reefs  producing the same as well including hussar, Maori cod and gold spot wrasse.
