Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2015-08-01

Offshore

More excellent conditions with 10 knot variable winds, with seas under 1m and under 1m of easterly swell. The crew from Top Catch Charters reports there's plenty of winter action at the moment with snapper, pearl perch and tusk fish making up majority of catches, with all reefs  producing bigger fish at dawn and dusk. Murphies has seen snapper to 6kg, pearl perch, tusk fish, sweetlip and moses perch. Caloundra 9 mile and 12 mile reefs  producing the same as well including hussar, Maori cod and gold spot wrasse. Out wide there have been snapper, big pearl perch, amberjack, tuskfish, fusilier, moses perch, hussar, gold spot wrasse and job fish on the Barwon Banks and snapper, pearl perch and trag jew from Caloundra Wide. Pig fish, tusk fish and snapper at the Hards. Wild Thing 2, ran a charter to Double Island Point and came back with moses perch, pearl perch, venus tusk fish, gold spot wrasse, squire, big snapper, fusilier and plenty of jew.

Estuaries

Noosa: Bream, and a few dart and chopper tailor are feeding along the beaches. Bream, good flathead and plenty of trevally on top of the tide at the Noosa River mouth, Munna Point and Frying Pan. Luderick are on at the river mouth car park rocks. Bream and trevally in the Munna Point area, in Weyba Creek there's bream, whiting and a few flathead and along Gympie Terrace stretch there's been whiting to 38cm and solid bream. Lake Cooroibah, pan size flathead were chasing hard bodies and soft plastics in the shallow water.

Maroochydore: The Full moon phase combined with light winds and seas and good weather will be excellent for fishing. Tailor to 55cm and jew 80 to 90cm at night off the beaches. Still catching good luderick so it's worth a try, also tailor, bream and flathead around the Cod Hole with best catches at night. An 83cm jew, a few tailor and bream caught Monday night off Picnic Pt. Big Flathead to 55cm on smash bait minnows from the mouth of Eudlo Creek, Bli Bli and Cotton Tree. Flathead and a few good bream from Bli Bli reach. Still a few good muddies in the upper reaches and sand crabs in the lower river.

Kawana: Bream and chopper tailor along the beaches and off the rocks at Point Cartwright and bream and tailor to 50cm off the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth, along the La Balsa Park reach and around the trawler moorings. Golden trevally and squid are in numbers around the river mouth. Flathead, bream and gar in the Basin. Bream and flathead from the Twin Bridges.

Caloundra: Chopper tailor, bream and jew along the beaches and off the tip of Bribie, best overnight or dawn and dusk. Try for small snapper and sweetlip off the rocks at Shelly Beach. Good flathead around the banks in the Passage, bream between the Blue Hole and Power Boat Club. Try for luderick along the Boardwalk and trevally in the canals. Good catches of quality bream and a few sand crabs throughout Passage.

Health Norman Hards Pig Fish Snapper 4kg

Heath Norman had a good session at the Hards this week with pig fish, snapper to 4kg, venus tusk and bananna fish.

Winds picking up even more today so better to fish the estuary's, with southeasterly 15 to 20 knots, reaching up to 25 knots inshore in the late morning. Seas increasing 1.5 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1 metre later in the evening.

Estuaries

Noosa: The bream, and a few dart and chopper tailor are still feeding along the beaches. Bream, good flathead and plenty of trevally on top of the tide at the Noosa River mouth, Munna Point and Frying Pan. Luderick are on at the river mouth rocksand will continue for several weeks to come. A few good whiting to 35cm along Gympie Terrace and between Noosaville and Tewantin, flathead to 65cm in the Tewantin ski run and near the ferry crossing and trevally at the entrance of Lake Cooroibah.

Maroochydore: Tailor and jew at night off the beaches over night. Still catching good luderick so it's worth a try, also tailor, bream and flathead around the Cod Hole with best catches at night. Good old Frank Bartosek has been at it again chasing a few golden trevally from the river mouth on mullet fillet.

There's been plenty of pan sized snapper and grass sweetlip around Old Women Island. Trekka 2 fished North Reef's had moses perch, red throat emperor, Maori cod and snapper. On the Hards  there's been plenty of snapper' pearl perch, Maori cod, moses perch, hussar, banana fish and venus tusk fish. 10KG COD FROM CAL 12NM

One of the crew on Top Catch Charters caught this 10 kg cod on Caloundra 12 Mile.

David Cockburn 610g Bream

David Cockburn from the Maroochy RSL fishing club caught several nice bream to 610g caught off the bank near the cod hole.

 7KG SNAPPER FROM CALOUNDRA WIDE

The crews on Top Catch Charters had a good day on Caloundra Wide for Snapper to 7kg. 

Local Fishing Report: Wednesday 2015-07-22

Offshore

Better conditions today with winds easterly 10 to 15 knots turning northeasterly during the afternoon and evening. Seas will be around 1 metre. Swell will be easterly 1 to 1.5 metres offshore. With improved conditions it is worth having a go for some of the quality good and sweetlip that are feeding on most local reefs .There have been cobia, grass sweetlip and a few snapper on the inner gneerings. Grass sweetlip from the reef off Point Cartwright.

Estuaries

Noosa: The rocky headlands in the NP and along the beaches is producing good bream and chopper tailor. Bream and jew on top of the tide at the Noosa River mouth, Munna Point and Frying Pan. Luderick around the dog beach rocks, whiting between Noosaville and Tewantin, flathead to 65cm in the Tewantin ski run and near the ferry crossing and trevally at the entrance of Lake Cooroibah.

Maroochydore: Worth a try for luderick, tailor, bream and flathead around the Cod Hole. Big bream, flathead to 60cm and trevally from Cotton Tree. Flathead and a few good bream from Bli Bli reach. Still a few good muddies in the upper reaches and sand crabs in the lower river.

Kawana: Bream, chopper tailor and jew along the beaches. Jew and bream off the rocks at Point Cartwright and bream off the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth, along the La Balsa Park reach and around the trawler moorings. Flathead, bream and gar in the Basin.

Caloundra: Chopper tailor and jew along the beaches, small snapper off the rocks at Shelly Beach. Good flathead around the banks in the Passage, bream between the Blue Hole and Power Boat Club. Luderick along the Boardwalk and trevally in the canals. Good catches of quality bream and a few sand crabs throughout Passage.

Yes, a great bunch of blokes, the crew from The Buderim Men's Shed had a wonderful day of fishing taking a few keepers and releasing a few including a big sting ray aboard a Swan BBQ Boat on the beautiful Maroochy River.

Keen anglers Terry and Owen Davies took home several bream to 33cm from the Cod Hole yesterday.
