Local Fishing Report: Tuesday 2015-11-10

Offshore

Winds will be southeasterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots north of Maroochydore in the morning. Winds turning easterly in the evening. Seas will be 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing to 1 metre during the morning.

Estuaries

Noosa: There's been plenty of good quality flathead in the 60 to 70cm range, bream, whiting and trevally at the Noosa River mouth and along the Noosaville reach and in Woods Bay. In Weyba Creek there were reports of good bream plus whiting in numbers, with the odd elbow slapper in amongst the schools to 41cm. Mangrove jack to 50cm taken in Noosa Sound and between the lakes. Flathead, bream and grunter bream along the Tewantin reach.

Maroochydore: Heaps of herring bait fish around Chambers Island. A few quality flathead 80 to 93cm released at night, a 65cm tailor, golden and giant trevally and bream in the Cod Hole. Dusky flathead and a few grunter bream from the mouth of Eudlo Creek. Whiting in the lower reaches. Mud crab in Eudlo creek and the Bli Bli reach. Mangrove jack in the upper reaches.

Kawana: Dart and a few tailor along the beaches, trevally along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth. Trevally, bream and gar from the boat mooring and in the Kawana canals. Flathead and whiting in the sand basin and trevally around Minyama Island. Trevally and flathead from Mountain Creek. Mangrove jack in the middle river around the snaggy banks. Good catches of quality sand crabs in the lower reaches.

Caloundra: Bream off the rocks at Kings Beach, queenfish on live bait around Military Jetty and the Boardwalk. Flathead at the start of the incoming tide on the Caloundra side of the bar. Good flathead with some over the maximum size released and trevally from Military jetty area. Trevally a few mangrove jack showing up in the canals and creeks. Catches of sand crabs in the passage and muddies in the creeks.

Paul Millar Grass Sweetlip Mooloolaba

Paul Millar braved the rough conditions on Saturday morning off Mooloolaba and boated this solid grass sweetlip after it followed up his burley pellet trail.

Offshore

Strong Wind Warning today for Sunshine Coast Waters, with winds easterly 20 to 25 knots tending southeasterly 15 to 25 knots before dawn. Winds reaching up to 30 knots in the morning. Seas 1.5 to 2.5 metres. Best to fish in sheltered waters or the bays pending rough conditions on the bars.

Estuaries

Fletcher Jack

Fletcher and I got a Jack in the boat last night (Saturday) after a few bust offs. Fishing the Maroochy River using mullet strips. Not sure who was more excited though, Fletchy or I. Cheers, Dan Toney. (Ch7 cameraman)

Maybe okay early but with a strengthening southerly change with winds northwesterly 15 to 20 knot over northern waters, ahead of a southeasterly 15 to 25 knot change over southern waters that will extend northwards through the morning. Seas 1 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the morning, then increasing to 1 to 2 metres during the afternoon. Trekka 2 fished North Reef yesterday for moses perch, mowong, frying pan snapper, venus tusk fish, monocle bream and pearl perch. Sunshine Reef's had moses perch, red throat emperor, venus tusk fish, Maori cod, slate bream and brown line sea perch. Quality Cobia as well as snapper, moses perch, pearl perch, teraglin jewfish and venus tusk fish at North Reef. Recently there's cobia, moses perch and tuskfish and a few quality sweetlip and snapper on the Outer Gneerings and Caloundra 9 and 12 mile reefs.

Wild Thing 2 fished Sunshine Reef and came back with moses perch, red throat emperor, venus tusk fish, Maori cod, slate bream and brown line sea perch. Quality Cobia as well as snapper, moses perch, pearl perch, teraglin jewfish and venus tusk fish at North Reef. Quality cobia as well as snapper, moses perch, pearl perch, teraglin jewfish and venus tusk fish, yesterday on Cougar One charter to North Reef. Recently there's cobia, moses perch and tuskfish and a few quality sweetlip and snapper on the Outer Gneerings and Caloundra 9 and 12 mile reefs. The Barwon Banks has also had pearl perch, moses perch, hussar, bonito, snapper and also raised two striped marlin.

Better wind conditions tomorrow with a northerly 10 to 15 knots turning northeasterly during the afternoon. When the northerlies ease back try for sand crabs in the bay at Mooloolaba.

Quality cobia as well as snapper, moses perch, pearl perch, teraglin jewfish and venus tusk fish, yesterday on Cougar One charter to North Reef. Recently there's cobia, moses perch and tuskfish and a few quality sweetlip and snapper on the Outer Gneerings and Caloundra 9 and 12 mile reefs. A few mud crabs on the move in the upper reaches and sandies in the lower river and around chambers Island.

Great offshore conditions today with winds easterly about 10 knots. Seas Below 1 metre. North Reef's, had squire, sweetlip, moses perch, venus tusk fish, coral bream and cobia. The Barwon Banks has also had pearl perch, moses perch, hussar, bonito and snapper. A few quality sweetlip and snapper on some of the close in reefs, so try the Gneerings and Caloundra 9 and 12 mile reefs. Also some good catches of sand crabs in the bay at Mooloolaba.

Estuaries

Noosa: A few good tailor along Teewah as they disperse and migrate back to the southern waters after their spawn around Fraser Island. Try for some good whiting in the frying pan area. A big flathead and a nice big eye trevally caught and released at the river mouth on whitebait. A few big flathead, plenty of bream, whiting and moses perch in Weyba Creek. Good mangrove jack feeding in the deep holes in Noosa Sound and Woods Bay.

Maroochydore: A few big tailor, 2.5kg golden and 2 giant trevally the day before in the Cod Hole, along with grunter bream, bream and Tarwhine . Plenty of average flathead in the lower river. Whiting in the lower reaches. Mangrove jack, flathead and trevally in Petrie creek and up past Bli Bli. A few mud crabs on the move in the upper reaches and sandies in the lower river and around chambers Island.

Kawana: Good trevally up to 2kg and bream from the boat mooring and in the Kawana canals. Flathead and whiting in the sand basin. Diamond and golden trevally around Minyama Island. Trevally and flathead from Mountain Creek and Bright water stretch. Mangrove jack in the middle river around the snaggy banks. Good catches of quality sand crabs in the lower reaches.

Caloundra: Tarwhine and whiting in the gutters from Currimundi to Wurtulla. Good flathead and trevally from Military jetty area. Trevally a few mangrove jack showing up in the canals and creeks and bream along The Boardwalk. A few good whiting starting to feed in the passage. Catches of sand crabs in the passage and muddies in the creeks.
