Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2015-10-29

Offshore

Conditions could be a bit choppy with winds southeasterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots north of Maroochydore in the morning. Trekka 2 charter to North Reef, had a good catch of squire, sweetlip, moses perch, venus tusk fish, coral bream and cobia. The Barwon Banks has also had pearl perch, moses perch, hussar, bonito and snapper.

Estuaries

Noosa: A few good tailor along Teewah as they disperse and migrate back to the southern waters after their spawn around Fraser Island. Try for some good whiting in the frying pan area. A big flathead and a nice big eye trevally caught and released at the river mouth on whitebait. A few big flathead, plenty of bream, whiting and moses perch in Weyba Creek. Good mangrove jack feeding in the deep holes in Noosa Sound and Woods Bay.

Maroochydore: A 2.5kg golden trevally yesterday and 2 giant trevally the day before in the Cod Hole, along with grunter bream, bream and Tarwhine . Plenty of average flathead in the lower river. Whiting in the lower reaches. Mangrove jack, flathead and trevally in Petrie creek and up past Bli Bli.

Kawana: Good trevally up to 2kg and bream from the boat mooring and in the Kawana canals. Flathead and whiting in the sand basin. Diamond and golden trevally around Minyama Island. Trevally and flathead from Mountain Creek and Bright water stretch. Mangrove jack in the middle river around the snaggy banks. Good catches of quality sand crabs in the lower reaches.

Caloundra: Tarwhine and whiting in the gutters from Currimundi to Wurtulla. Good flathead and trevally from Military jetty area. Trevally a few mangrove jack showing up in the canals and creeks and bream along The Boardwalk. A few good whiting starting to feed in the passage. Catches of sand crabs in the passage and muddies in the creeks.

Local Fishing Report: Wednesday 2015-10-28

Offshore

Conditions will become quite choppy with winds southeasterly 15 to 20 knot and seas 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres offshore south of Maroochydore. Yesterday morning's Trekka 2 charter to North Reef, with a good catch of squire, sweetlip, moses perch, venus tusk fish, coral bream and cobia. Offshore

Winds will be north to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots shifting south to southeasterly in the evening. Winds reaching up to 20 knots inshore early in the morning and again in the late evening. Seas are 1 to 1.5m, with less than a meter of east to southeast swell.  There have been good snapper feeding close inshore and off the rocky headlands at night between Mooloolaba and Noosa this week.  In the shelter of Laguna Bay and Hall's Reef there's been quality red emperor, squire and grass sweetlip, while North Reef's had snapper, pearl perch, moses perch and jew.

Winds will be northerly about 10 knots increasing to 15 to 20 knots in the middle of the day. Seas are around 1 metre, increasing to 1-1.5m in the afternoon.   There have been good snapper feeding close inshore and off the rocky headlands at night between Mooloolaba and Noosa this week.  In the shelter of Laguna Bay and Hall's Reef there's been quality red emperor, squire and grass sweetlip, while North Reef's had snapper, pearl perch, moses perch and jew.

Conditions could be reasonable and worth a go with winds easterly 10 to 15 knots turning northeasterly below 10 knots in the evening. Seas below 1 metre. Also looking pretty good tomorrow with an east to northeasterly about 10 knots. There have been good snapper feeding close inshore and off the rocky headlands at night between Mooloolaba and Noosa this week. In the shelter of Laguna Bay and Hall's Reef there's been quality red emperor, squire and grass sweetlip, while North Reef's had snapper, pearl perch, moses perch and jew.

Jaycob

Yesterday morning, up past Bli Bli, Jaycob Williams had a crack at a feisty Mangrove Jack and won, he also released it to become breeding stock.

Conditions still choppy to rough with winds northwesterly 15 to 25 knots shifting southeasterly in the morning. Seas 1.5 to 2.5 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the morning, then increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres around midday. Saturday easing a bit with winds Southeasterly 15 to 20 knots turning easterly during the afternoon. In the shelter of Laguna Bay and Hall's Reef there's been quality red emperor, squire and grass sweetlip made up the catch. Cougar One fished the top of North Reef on Wendesday for snapper, pearl perch, moses perch and jewfish or mulloway.

A big 84cm flathead and a nice big eye trevally caught and released at the river mouth on whitebait. A few big flathead, plenty of bream, whiting, cod and moses perch in Weyba Creek. Whiting to 38cm from Chambers Island, Picnic Point and Black banks. Three mangrove jack, released, cod and trevally in Petrie creek. Sand crabs in the lower river.

Maroochydore: There's dart, tarwine and the odd tailor along Maroochy North Shore. The herring baitfish are schooling up on the afternoon run out tide around Chambers Island and the Cod hole. There's a few big trevally and school jew in the Cod Hole. Flathead throughout the river at present. Cod, trevally and tailor in Maroochy Waters. Whiting early morning from Picnic Point and Black banks. Mangrove jack to 54cm in Petrie creek. Sand crabs in the lower river.

Kawana: Try for school mackerel along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth. Good trevally up to 2kg from the boat mooring and bright water stretch. Flathead and whiting 32cm in the sand basin. Mangrove jack in the middle river around the snaggy banks. Good catches of quality sand crabs in the lower reaches of the Mooloolah River.

Caloundra: Tarwhine and whiting in the gutters from Currimundi to Wurtulla and worth a try for jew on top of the tide on the tip Bribie. Quality flathead in the 45 to 60cm range on the drop offs and sand banks in the top end of the Passage. Trevally a few mangrove jack showing up in the canals and creeks and bream along The Boardwalk. A few good whiting starting to feed in the passage. Catches of sand crabs in the passage and muddies in the creeks.

Kaian Tuna

Kaian

Kaian with a yellow finned tuna and a kingfish. They also caught a Mac tuna, another two kingfish and a Spanish mackerel! They were just off the coast of Mooloolaba and used live slimy mackerel as bait!

Trekka 2 fished North Reef for pearl perch, striped sea perch, moses perch, venus tusk fish, sea bream, grass sweetlip and squire. Spanish mackerel at the Mooloolaba Blinker. Coral trout, snapper, moses perch and grassy sweetlip at Currimundi Reef, at Caloundra 12 and 8 Mile. Snapper, tusk fish, pig fish and sweetlip on Murphy's Reef. Snapper from Coolum reef.

Maroochydore: There's dart, tarwine and the odd tailor along Maroochy North Shore. The herring baitfish are schooling up around Chambers Island and the Cod hole. There's trevally to 2.9kg and school jew in the Cod Hole. Flathead throughout the river at present. Cod, trevally and tailor in Maroochy Waters. Whiting early morning from Picnic Point and Black banks. Mangrove jack to 54cm in Petrie creek. Sand crabs in the lower river.

Kawana: Try for school mackerel along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth. Good trevally up to 2kg from the boat mooring and bright water stretch. Flathead and whiting 32cm in the sand basin. Mangrove jack in the middle river around the snaggy banks. Good catches of quality sand crabs in the lower reaches of the Mooloolah River.

Caloundra: Tarwhine and whiting in the gutters from Currimundi to Wurtulla and worth a try for jew on top of the tide on the tip Bribie. Quality flathead in the 45 to 60cm range on the drop offs and sand banks in the top end of the Passage. Trevally a few mangrove jack showing up in the canals and creeks and bream along The Boardwalk. A few good whiting starting to feed in the passage. Catches of sand crabs in the passage and muddies in the creeks.

Offshore

More good offshore conditions today and tomorrow with winds easterly about 10 knots increasing to 10 to 15 knots in the morning. Seas are below 1 metre. Trekka 2 fished North Reef for pearl perch, striped sea perch, moses perch, venus tusk fish, sea bream, grass sweetlip and squire. Spanish mackerel at the Mooloolaba Blinker. Coral trout, snapper, moses perch and grassy sweetlip at Currimundi Reef, at Caloundra 12 and 8 Mile. Snapper, tusk fish, pig fish and sweetlip on Murphy's Reef. Snapper from Coolum reef.

Estuaries

Noosa: An 86cm greenback tailor was taken off Marcus Beach on Wednesday night. A few quality whiting to 36cm showing up in the lower river. Plenty of flathead in the 50 to 60 cm range and good trevally to 60cm in Woods Bay area. A few big flathead, plenty of bream, whiting, cod and moses perch in Weyba Creek. Good mangrove jack up to 1.6kg in the deep holes in Noosa Sound and Woods Bay. A few sand crabs in the lower river and mud crabs in the Lakes.
