Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2016-10-06

Offshore

Near perfect conditions in the morning with winds variable about 10 knots becoming east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the early afternoon then becoming northwest to northeasterly about 10 knots in the evening. Seas around 1 metre. Conditions also pretty good tomorrow as well with variable about 10 knots becoming north to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots during the day. The crews on Wild Thing 2 fished D.I. on Tuesday for moses perch, snapper, venus tusk fish, grass sweetlip, brown hussar, pearl perch and slate bream. There have been snapper and grassy sweetlip at Murphys and Currimundi Reefs and yellowtail king at the Inner Gneerings and Mooloolaba Blinker. Snapper, tusk fish, pearl perch and cobia from the Hards. On Sunshine Reef, there’s coral trout, squire, grass sweetlip and pearl perch. Mackerel. Coral trout, sweetlip and mac tuna from Coolum Reef.

Estuaries

Noosa: Dart, whiting and bream along Teewah Beach. The crews on Noosa River Fishing Safari caught and released an 85cm flathead in the lower estuary on Tuesday. Whiting and bream in the frying pan area. Flathead and golden trevally in the lower river. Flathead, moses perch and Jacks in Weyba Creek. Mangrove jack and mud crabs along the Tewantin stretch.

Maroochydore: A few good whiting and flathead in Maroochy Waters Canal. Flathead and bream in the cod hole. Quality mangrove jack in the canals and around the Northern bank near Twin Waters.. Flathead, bream and trevally in Petrie Creek. Whiting from Bli Bli, the mouth of Eudlo Creek and the lower river. Mud crabs in the deeper holes of the middle river.

Kawana: Dart and whiting along the Warana stretch. Jacks and Cod in Parrearra Channel and under the twin bridge. Bream, Gar and trevally around the boat moorings and rock walls. Flathead and whiting in the Basin.

Caloundra: Flathead in the Blue Hole and at the entrance to Coochin Creek. Whiting opposite Bells Creek and along Golden Beach. Bream and flathead from the boardwalk. Jew, mangrove jack showing up in the creeks and bigger bream at night in the deeper hole of the northern passage. Mud crabs in Coochin Creek and up the canals.

Winds will be west to southwesterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots offshore south of Maroochydore during the morning. Turning southerly in the late morning then tending northeast to southeasterly in the late afternoon, with seas at 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing below 1 metre by early evening. There have been snapper and grassy sweetlip at Murphys and Currimundi Reefs and yellowtail king at the Inner Gneerings and Mooloolaba Blinker. Snapper, tusk fish, pearl perch and cobia from the Hards. On Sunshine Reef, there’s coral trout, squire, grass sweetlip and pearl perch. Mackerel. Coral trout, sweetlip and mac tuna from Coolum Reef.

Hayden Kratz 59cm Flathead

Hayden Kratz and his family hire a boat and fished the cod hole yesterday, coming up with bream to 28cm and a 59cm dusky flathead.

Kooper Milligan 27cm Whiting

The Swan Boat Hire, Silstar junior rod purchased on Saturday morning returned my 4 year old grandson, Kooper Milligan with a 27cm and 31 cm whiting. And two toad fish that he really didn't like much.

Choppy conditions today with wind north to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots, reaching up to 25 knots at times offshore from the late morning. Winds tending westerly in the late evening with seas1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1 to 2 metres during the morning with seas 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1 to 2 metres during the morning. Snapper and grassy sweetlip at Murphys and Currimundi Reefs and yellowtail king at the Inner Gneerings and Mooloolaba Blinker.


Snapper, tusk fish and pig fish from the middle banks. Snapper, tusk fish, pearl perch and cobia from the Hards. Snapper, mackerel and grass sweetlip from Currimundi. On Sunshine Reef, there’s coral trout, squire, grass sweetlip and pearl perch. Mackerel. Coral trout, sweetlip and mac tuna from Coolum Reef.

Flathead on live baits and plastics in the lower river with bream and trevally at the river mouth. Bream, flathead and good size golden trevally in Woods Bays. Flathead, Moses Perch and Jacks in Weyba Creek. Mangrove jack and mud crabs along the Tewantin stretch, with sand crabs being caught in the lower river.

Maroochydore: Elbow slapper whiting and flathead averaging 55cm in Maroochy Waters Canal. A 78cm barramundi was caught near the Bli Bli Bridge last week. Flathead from Chambers Island and Picnic Point. Flathead and trevally in Petrie Creek. Whiting from Muller park, as well chambers Island and picnic point early in the morning. Snapper, tusk fish and pig fish from the middle banks. Snapper, tusk fish, pearl perch and cobia from the Hards.  Snapper, mackerel and grass sweetlip from Currimundi. At Big Hall's reef where there’s been snapper in the 2kg to 2.5kg range and a 17kg cobia taken. On Sunshine Reef, there’s coral trout, squire, grass sweetlip and pearl perch. Mackerel. Coral trout, sweetlip and mac tuna from Coolum Reef.

Estuaries

Spanish mackerel on trolled slimy mackerel between Old Women Island and the Blinker.  At Big Hall's reef where there’s been snapper in the 2kg to 2.5kg range and a 17kg cobia taken. On Sunshine Reef, there’s coral trout, squire, grass sweetlip and pearl perch. A few spotty mackerel and mac tuna off Coolum, with bigger numbers off the northern end of Bribie.

Northwesterly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots offshore early in the morning. Winds tending variable about 10 knots in the afternoon ahead of a west to southwesterly change 15 to 20 knots extending from the west in the evening and reaching up to 25 knots offshore. Seas will be 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing below 1 metre around midday, then increasing to around 1 metre later in the evening. On The Hards there are snapper, pearlies, amberjack and trag jew.  At Big Hall's reef where there’s  been snapper in the 2kg to 2.5kg range and a 17kg cobia taken. On Sunshine Reef, there’s coral trout, snapper, tusk fish, pearl perch and grass sweetlip. A few spotty mackerel and mac tuna off Coolum.

Estuaries

Noosa: Fishing Teewah Beach for tailor, tarwhine, bream and dart. There is good quality flathead, a few trevally, the odd tailor at night and bream at the Noosa River mouth and flathead, trevally and a surprise of a 130cm barracuda in the Woods Bays Flathead and bream in Weyba Creek and bream and mangrove jack and mud crabs along the Tewantin and upper reaches.

Maroochydore: Trevally, jew and bream around the Cod Hole. Flathead from Chambers Island, up Petrie Creek and the Bli Bli Island. Quality mangrove jack and school jew in the middle and upper river. Whiting from muller park and twin waters. Muddies are on the move throughout all the river systems.

Kawana: Great conditions for fishing along the beaches for whiting and dart. Grass sweetlip and bream off Point Cartwright. A few golden trevally and a few GT’s in the Kawana Canals. Bream, gar and trevally around the boat moorings and rock walls, also plenty of quality flathead in the Basin and bream around the trawler moorings.

Caloundra: Plenty of bream a few whiting and good quality flathead to be had throughout the Passage. Trevally and still a few tailor in Pelican Waters Canal. Jew and bigger bream at night in the deeper hole of the northern passage Whiting and a few good mud crabs feeding in the creeks.

Local Fishing Report: Sunday 2016-09-25

Offshore

Great conditions predicted for close inshore with variable winds about 10 knots becoming north to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the afternoon. Swell will be southerly around 1 metre offshore. Trekka 2 fished The Banks earlier in the week for snapper, pearlies, gold band snapper, moses perch and tuskies.  On The Hards there are snapper, pearlies, amberjack and trag jew.  At Big Hall's reef where there’s  been snapper in the 2.kg to 2.5kg range and a 17kg cobia taken. On Sunshine Reef, there’s coral trout, snapper, tusk fish, pearl perch and grass sweetlip. Between Coolum and Currimundi Reefs there have been Pearl perch, snapper and grassy sweetlip.
