Local Fishing Report: Monday 2018-09-03

Offshore

Winds will be South to southeasterly at 15 to 20 knots, with 1 to 1.5 metres seas and 1 to 1.5m of offshore swell. North Reef for some pearl perch, moses perch, pearl perch, mulloway and trag jew. Snapper, long tail tuna, cobia, pearl perch, tusk fish from the Gneerings and Caloundra 12 mile. Snapper, pearl perch, cobia, mulloway and tusk fish from the Barwon Banks. Snapper, grass sweetlp, moses perch and parrot from Murphy's. Snapper and good sweetlip close in off Coolum around Old Women Island. Snapper and Sweetlip around Brays Rock. Double Island Point reefs producing good quality snapper, some nice red emperor, pearl perch, moses perch, tusk fish and a number of quality cobia.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: A few tailor, bream and dart to be taken along Teewah Beach. Big golden trevally and flathead in Woods Bays. There has been plenty of whiting in the lower river. Flathead up to 70cm just outside Lake Doonella. Flathead, treavally, cod, bream and jack from Tewantin ski run and in between the lakes.

Maroochydore: Tailor and mulloway from the river mouth.Golden trevally to 60cm in the middle river. Flathead in Eudlo Creek. Mangrove jack and trevally in petrie Creek. Quality whiting in the lower river. Mud crabs in the middle and upper river.

Mooloolaba: Trevally and bream around Minyama Island. Bream, the odd tailor and golden trevally from the boat moorings. Whiting from the flats above McKenzies Bridge. Bream and mangrove jack at night around McKenzies Bridge. Bream, grass sweetlip and tailor off the rocks at Point Cartwright.

Caloundra: Whiting and flathead from Currimundi Creek. Flathead and whiting along Golden Beach. Bream, tailor and grass sweetlip from the rocky headland between Moffat and Shelly Beaches. Flathead from the skids.

Offshore

Strong Wind Warning today for Sunshine Coast Waters. Conditions will have some pretty rough conditions this morning with winds northwesterly 20 to 25 knots, reaching up to 30 knots offshore during the morning. Winds tending westerly 15 to 20 knots during the morning then tending north to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots in the late afternoon with seas 2 to 3 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the morning, then decreasing below 1 metre during the afternoon.Tomorrow will have much better conditions with winds southwesterly 10 to 15 knots turning southeasterly during the day. and seas below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres offshore during the afternoon or evening  So when conditions improve and are right go to North Reef for some pearl perch, moses perch hussar, venus tusk fish and some solid grass sweetlip. There's been some quality snapper, long tail tuna, cobia, pearl perch, tusk fish from the Gneerings and Caloundra 12 mile. Snapper, grass sweetlp, moses perch and parrot from Murphy's. Keeper snapper and good sweetlip close in off Coolum around Old Women Island. Snapper and Sweetlip around Brays Rock. Mooloolaba: Good hard fighting trevally around Minyama Island. Bream and golden trevally from the boat moorings. Bream and mangrove jack at night around McKenzies Bridge and the rock walls the Kawana Boat Ramp. Bream and tailor off the rocks at Point Cartwright.

Caloundra: Flathead and whiting along Golden Beach. Bream, tailor and grass sweetlip from the rocky headland between Moffat and Shelly Beaches. Luderick, bream, the odd tailor and flathead off the boardwalk. Some good size whiting feeding off the flats throughout the Passage.

The beautiful Spring weather is here for weekend ahead for some great fishing.action in the dams, rivers and offshore. Lets hope all the Fathers have a great Fathers Day on Sunday

Looking like an okay morning today followed by some choppy to rough conditions later today with winds north to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots turning northwesterly 20 to 25 knots during the afternoon. Winds increasing to 25 to 30 knots south of Noosa in the evening. Winds inshore northwesterly below 10 knots during the early morning. with seas around 1 metre, increasing to 1.5 to 2.5 metres during the afternoon or evening.Tomorrow there will be better conditions as the day progresseswith winds dropping out around midday and sunday should have lighter southerly winds and good offshore conditions. So be ready to go as there have been good catches, Wild Thing 2 fished North Reef pearl perch, moses perch hussar, venus tusk fish and some solid grass sweetlip." www.fishingnoosa.com.au/noosacharters.htm. There's been some quality snapper, long tail tuna, cobia, pearl perch, tusk fish from the Gneerings and Caloundra 12 mile. Snapper, grass sweetlp, moses perch and parrot from Murphy's. Double Island Point reefs producing good quality snapper, some nice red emperor, pearl perch, moses perch, tusk fish and a number of quality cobia. There's been grass sweetlip, cobia, cod, quality snapper and tusk fish from the Barwon Banks. Pearl perch, snapper, tusk fish, sweetlip, some real good quality red emperor, mulloway, moses perch and some quality gold spot cod, around the 15 and 22 nm East of Wide Bay Bar.

Out and around Hervey Bay: Snapper, sweetlip, blackall, school mackerel, cod and golden trevally on most of the inshore reefs. Good grassy sweetlip, blackall, coral trout, tuskfish, quality keeper snapper and cod have been taken off Roonies Point, Wathumba, also on the 25 fathom reef and in the Roy Rufus Artificial Reef. A few quality longtail tuna in Platypus bay. School mackerel and chopper tailor are feeding throughout the bay, on the Burrum 8 mile and are taking metal slugs. Still a few school and Spanish mackerel from the fairway buoy, moon ledge and Six Mile Arch Cliffs.Some stonker queenfish in th Burrum River at the moment. Bream, bonito, school mackerel and tuna off the Urangan Jetty. Flathead off the beaches between Burrum Heads and Urangan. A few thread fin salmon, bream and reasonable flathead in the creeks that feed into the Straits. Keep trying for whiting around Gatakers Bay and Toogoom.

Estuaries and Beaches

Fraser Island: As we get into spring the sand whiting numbers will increase as they feed in the surf gutters and the flathead will be on the western beaches and creeks. Good dart in the low tide gutters and tailor right along the beach. September is a great month to target some of the better quality and bigger tailor and dart feeding around right along the beach and up towards Sandy Cape. Mulloway in the deeper gutters along the eastern beach, particularly overnight. Whiting, bream and good dart in the shallow gutters. On the western side of Fraser island there’s been plenty of whiting and catches of flathead and trevally, while in the creeks and the flats there’s a few good solid bream bream and flathead.

Please remember the tailor run closed season applies from midday, the 1st August to midday 30th September 2018. The closure is in place to protect tailor where they congregate for spawning. During the closure, the taking of all fin fish is prohibited within an area from a point 400m north of Waddy Point to a point 400m south of Indian Head, and 400m out to sea from low water. Rainbow Beach: Dart, and good tailor in the gutters all along the beach from Inskip Point to Double Island Point. Try for mulloway and bigger tailor have been moving through the gutters particularly at night and try tailor at dawn and dusk and go for quality flathead, in the deeper gutters, dart, whiting in the gutters through the day at Rainbow Beach, Double Island Point and Teewah Beach. A few good whiting, bream and dart up the beach and around Inskip Point. Tin Can Bay is fishing well for a few good tailor whiting, plenty of good bream, big flathead and trevally.

Local Dams and Rivers: The deeper water in the main basin of Lake MacDonald is producing good bass The fishing will improve further as we move through spring with more good fish to be taken on 1/4oz spinnerbaits hopping blades, spoons and soft vibes. Trolling the bubble trail and casting around the 3 Way area for schooling bass works well The Switchblades have the action for good bass out of the Tiaro stretch of the Mary River so get some Smak 16 and Brolga on the troll and TT Blades. Borumba Dam has had bass and saratoga caught in the shallow weed beds and around lilypads on surface walkers and purple spinnerbaits. Also worth a try on soft and hard lure in the main Basin have a go at Borumba Flat which is at the end of the basin as well as the junction of the Yabba and Kingham arms around the 10 m depths. Ice Jigs, 1/4 oz blades,spoons and tail spinners will all produce fish, wish catches to 50 cm. Boondooma Dam has been fishing well for good saratoga and bass with the schooling fish feeding close to the bottom in many areas of the main basin. Double Island Point reefs have been producing pearl perch, moses perch, tusk fish and a number of quality cobia. There's been grass sweetlip, cobia, cod, quality snapper and tusk fish from the Barwon Banks. The crews on Deep End Charters out of Mooloolaba have been getting some quality snapper, long tail tuna, cobia, pearl perch, tusk fish from the Gneerings and Caloundra 12 mile. Snapper, grass sweetlp, moses perch and parrot from Murphy's. Big grass sweetlip and nice keeper snapper close in off Coolum around Old Women Island. Snapper and Sweetlip around Brays Rock.

With Sundays Full Moon Phase there will be some great fish feeding activity to be had over the next few days. Good condition with a bit of northerly chop with winds east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots with seas around 1 metre.Tomorrow will have fairly choppy conditions hopfully mainly in the morning, with winds north to northeasterly 15 to 20 knots shifting south to southwesterly during the afternoon then becoming west to southwesterly about 10 knots during the evening with seas 1 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1 metre during the evening.  Double Island Point theirs been pearl perch, moses perch, tusk fish and a number of quality cobia. There's been grass sweetlip, cobia, cod, quality snapper and tusk fish from the Barwon Banks. Decent golden trevally to 60 cm and queenfish around the ski run area, and also up into Lake Cooroibah Luderick in the lower river. Bream around the bridges and rocky areas of the lower river.

Maroochydore: Try for jew off Coolum Beach and tailor at the river mouth and along the beaches try at dawn and dusk or over night. Several Big queenfish up to 75 cm all caught and released except one over past two days, chopper tailor, bream and a few trevally with better catches over night from the motorway bridge pylons and along Oyster bank road. Good fathead caught through out the river and quality bream from around Goat and Channel Islands.

Mooloolaba: A few good tailor and solid golden trevally in the lower river. Bream and a few luderick around McKenzies Bridge, the rock walls and the Kawana Boat Ramp. Big bream and tailoroff the rocks at Point Cartwright. Gar in the La Balsa sand basin.

Caloundra: Be worth targeting he jew over night along the beaches with the Full Moon on Saturday Night. The beaches have bream, tailor and jew at dawn and dusk. Luderick, bream, the odd tailor and flathead off the boardwalk. Bream, flathead and whiting along Golden beach. Trevally, cod, the odd tailor and bream in Pelican Waters Canal.

Chrissy Bell from The Maroochy RSL Fishing Club did well on her kayak for this 60 cm dusky flathead off Chambers island yesterday.

Extended Fishing Report: Friday 2018-08-24

Offshore

Today will have perfect conditions with winds variable about 10 knots becoming east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots during the day with seas below 1 metre. Tomorrow will be okay early but with east-northeasterly winds easterly 10 to 15 knots turning northeasterly during the morning. increasing through the day and becoming up and getting pretty rough on Sunday morning. North reefs had pearl perch, moses perch, cobia, mulloway, snapper, tusk fish and grass sweetlip. Trekka 2 fished Double Island Point recently where they pearl perch, moses perch, tusk fish and a number of quality cobia. There's been grass sweetlip, cobia, cod, quality snapper and tusk fish from the Barwon Banks. The crews on Deep End Charters out of Mooloolaba have been getting some quality snapper, long tail tuna, cobia, pearl perch, tusk fish from the Gneerings and Caloundra 12 mile. Snapper, grass sweetlp, moses perch and parrot from Murphy's. Big grass sweetlip and nice keeper snapper close in off Coolum around Old Women Island. Snapper and Sweetlip around Brays Rock. Pearl perch, still getting big red's emperor, quality snapper, tusk fish, sweetlip and moses perch big cobia and some monster cod, North of Double Island Point and around the 15 and 20 nm areas, East of Wide Bay Bar.

Out and around Hervey Bay: Snapper, sweetlip, blackall, good mackerel and the odd quality coral trout on most of the inshore reefs.. Good grassy sweetlip, blackall, coral trout, tuskfish, quality keeper snapper and cod have been taken off Roonies Point, Wathumba, also on the 25 fathom reef and in the Roy Rufus Artificial Reef. School mackerel and chopper tailor are feeding throughout the bay, on the Burrum 8 mile and are taking metal slugs. Still a few school and Spanish mackerel from the fairway buoy, moon ledge and Six Mile Arch Cliffs.Some stonker queenfish in th Burrum River at the moment. Bream, bonito,and schoolies are feeding around the Urangan Jetty. A few thread fin salmon, bream and reasonable flathead in the creeks that feed into the Straits. Keep trying for whiting around Gatakers Bay and Toogoom.

Estuaries and Beaches

Fraser Island: Please remember the tailor run closed season applies from midday, the 1st August to midday 30th September 2018. The closure is in place to protect tailor where they congregate for spawning. During the closure, the taking of all fin fish is prohibited within an area from a point 400m north of Waddy Point to a point 400m south of Indian Head, and 400m out to sea from low water. Good dart in the low tide gutters and tailor between Dundubara and Yidney Rocks. Also a few bigger tailor and big dart feedind around the Maheno area and around Cathedrals and further up in northern areas. Mulloway in the deeper gutters along the eastern beach, particularly overnight. Whiting, bream and good dart in the shallow gutters. On the western side of Fraser island there’s been plenty of whiting and catches of flathead and trevally, while in the creeks and the flats there’s a few good solid bream bream and flathead.

Rainbow Beach: Dart, whiting and tailor form the beaches and in the bay. Good mulloway and bigger tailor have been moving through the gutters particularly at night and try tailor at dawn and dusk and go for flathead, dart, whiting in the gutters through the day at Rainbow Beach, Double Island Point and Teewah Beach. A few good whiting, bream and dart up the beach and around Inskip Point. Tin Can Bay is fishing well for a few chopper tailor whiting, plenty of good bream, flathead, sand crabs and trevally.

Local Dams and Rivers: The deeper water in the main basin of Lake MacDonald is producing good bass in numbers. The fishing will improve further towards the end of the month and through September with more good fish to be taken on hopping blades and soft vibes. The Switchblades have the action for good bass out of the Tiaro stretch of the Mary River so get some Smak 16 and Brolga on the troll and TT Blades. Peter Batey a good day out at Borumba Dam last weekend managed to get some decent fish with around 30 odd fish caught and released, even got 1 bass with a tag in it, recorded the length and tag number to pass on to suntag! Borumba Dam has had bass taken on soft and hard lure in the main Basin have a go at Borumba Flat which is at the end of the basin as well as the junction of the Yabba and Kingham arms around the 10 m depths. Ice Jigs, 1/4 oz blades,spoons and tail spinners will all produce fish, wish catches to 50 cm. Boondooma Dam has been fishing well for excellent bass with the schooling fish feeding close to the bottom in many areas of the main basin. We also saw some decent golden trevally around the ski run area, and also up into Lake Cooroibah Luderick in the lower river. Bream around the bridges and rocky areas of the lower river.

Maroochydore: Try for jew off Coolum Beach and tailor at the river mouth and along the beaches try at dawn and dusk or over night. Several big queenfish up to 75 cm all caught and released except one over past two days, chopper tailor, bream and a few trevally with better catches over night from the motorway bridge pylons and along Oyster bank road. Good fathead caught through out the river and quality bream from around Goat and Channel Islands.

Mooloolaba: A few good tailor and solid golden trevally in the lower river. Bream and a few luderick around McKenzies Bridge, the rock walls and the Kawana Boat Ramp. Big bream and tailoroff the rocks at Point Cartwright. Gar in the La Balsa sand basin.

Caloundra: The beaches have bream, tailor and jew at dawn and dusk. Luderick, bream, the odd tailor and flathead off the boardwalk. Bream, flathead and whiting along Golden beach. Trevally, cod, the odd tailor and bream in Pelican Waters Canal.

Offshore

Much better conditions today as winds will be west to southwesterly 10 to 15 knots turning north to northwesterly in the early afternoon then tending west to northwesterly in the late evening. Winds reaching up to 20 knots offshore in the evening with seas around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres offshore north of Maroochydore later in the evening. Tomorrow conditions will be good in close inshore waters early but probably choppy and lumpy out wide away from the coast with winds westerly 15 to 20 knots turning north to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots during the afternoon then tending west to northwesterly during the evening. Inshore afternoon north to northeasterly sea breezes 10 to 15 knots. So as conditions settle down remember, Trekka 2 fished  Double Island Point on Saturday where they  pearl perch, moses perch, tusk fish and a number of quality cobia.
