Local Fishing Report: Monday 2019-01-14

Offshore

Winds will be southeasterly at 15 to 20 knots turning easterly in the evening, with 1-1.5m seas and 1-1.5m of easterly swell. .Sunshine Reef has had quality venus tusk fish, grass emperor, painted sweetlip and Spanish mackerel cobia, spotty mackerel and grass sweetlip. Cobia, mackerel, snapper and cod from North Reef. Been good catches of mahi mahi and spanish mackerel from Mooloolaba. Cobia, snapper, venus tusk fish and spanish mackerel off Coolum. Mackerel and maori cod from Caloundra 12 mile. Double Island Point has had a few good snapper, cobia, venus tusk fish, pearl perch, moses perch, grass emperor and snapper.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Noosa Sound area has been producing quality golden trevally, some good grunter bream, flathead and a few elbow slapper whiting. Whiting also from the Yacht Club and near the ferry stretch. Golden trevally taken and a few good tailor in the lower river. A few good catches of mangrove jack in the creeks and around the bridge structures and up between the lakes.

Maroochydore: Big bream and plenty of flathead from Cotton Tree. A couple of tailor to 45 cm upstream from the Cod Hole. A few big whiting throughout the lower reaches. Golden trevally and flathead from Picnic Point. Mangrove Jack from the creeks and Bli Bli reach. Flathead from the creek mouths. Mud Crabs potted mainly in the upper river. 

Mooloolaba: Quality whiting, bream and trevally in the Mooloolah canals. Bream and trevally from the moorings. Jacks, flathead to 60cm, trevally, from McKenzies Bridge. Big whiting in Mountain Creek Reach. Cod, mangrove jack and and muddies from the upper Mooloolah.

Caloundra: Some big flathead up to 70cm, mangrove jack and a few mud crabs in Coochin Creek. Good numbers of flathead, a few whiting and bream from Golden Beach. Quality whiting south of Bells Creek over night. Mud crabs will be feeding in all the creeks that feed into the Passage.

Probably best to stay in protected waters over the weekend and through to early in the week when conditions settle a bitCould be a bit choppy today with with winds southeasterly 15 to 20 knots and seas 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing to 1 metre during the morning, then increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the afternoon.Tomorrow will be similar with choppy condition with wind southeasterly 15 to 20 knots and seas 1 to 1.5 metres. Caloundra: Some big flathead up to 70cm, mangrove jack and a few mud crabs in Coochin Creek. Good numbers of flathead, a few whiting and bream from Golden Beach. Quality whiting south of Bells Creek over night. Mud crabs will be feeding in all the creeks that feed into the Passage.

Check out Conner Murray with a fat Morwong or blubber lip bream, Slatey bream, Painted sweelip and the old and probably politically incorrect version ‘Mother in Law Fish’ which was taken up near Oyster Bank Road, in the Maroochy River. Well done Conner!

Good conditions particularly early with winds east to northeasterly about 10 knots increasing to 10 to 15 knots in the late afternoon.and seas below 1 metre. Tomorrow will be okay in the morning becoming choppy in the afternoon with winds easterly 10 to 15 knots tending southeasterly 15 to 20 knots in the early afternoon and seas around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres by early evening. Tomorrow's conditions will also be pretty good with winds easterly 10 to 15 knots turning northeasterly during the evenings with seas around 1 metres. Sunshine Reef had a few good catches of grass emperor, moses perch, red throat emperor and yellowfin tuna. Chardon's Reef reasonable snapper, pearl perch and venus tusk fish on the bottom for pearl perch, moses perch, grass emperor and snapper. Cobia, mackerel, snapper and cod from North Reef. Mooloolaba: Fish the beaches for whiting and dart. Jacks, flathead, trevally, whiting and a few cod in the Mooloolaba canals and the lower river rock walls. A few big whiting, bream and flathead from La Balsa Sand basin. Cod, mangrove jack and and muddies from the upper Mooloolah. 

Caloundra: Some big flathead up to 70cm, mangrove jack and a few mud crabs in Coochin Creek. The Flathead, whiting and bream from Golden Beach. Whiting and flathead throughout the Passage. Mud crabs will be feeding in all the creeks that feed into the Passage.

Good conditions forecast today with winds easterly 10 to 15 knots, and seas around 1 metre.Tomorrow's conditions will also be pretty good early and become a bit choppy in the evening with winds, easterly 10 to 15 knots increasing to 15 to 20 knots in the evening with seas around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres offshore north of Maroochydore during the evening. Double Island Point has had a few good goldband snapper, cobia, venus tusk fish, pearl perch, moses perch, grass emperor and snapper.

A 53cm golden trevally taken and a few good tailor in the lower river. A 44cm jack on Tuesday on a Zerek Fish Trap at the start of the run in between the lakes.

Maroochydore: Good whiting throughout the lower reaches. Tailor to 55cm in the Cod Hole. Lots of average bream and flathead along the sand bank edges from the Maroochy Waters Canals and Chamber's Island, through to Godfrey's Rd. Wild Thing 2 crews fished Chardon's Reef and found a patch of warmer water and sure enough some mahi mahi. We ended up landing three on pilchard floaters and caught snapper, pearl perch and venus tusk fish on the bottom. Also at Sunshine Reef they took coral trout, pearl perch, tuskfish, jew and cobia. Cobia, mackerel, snapper and cod from North Reef. Snapper, sweetlip and few spotty mackerel from the Blinker. Mahi mahi and spanish mackerel from the Mooloolaba 8 mile. Cobia, snapper, venus tusk fish and spanish mackerel off Coolum. Mackerel and maori cod from Caloundra 12 mile. Try for sweetlip and spanish mackerel from Sunshine Reef. Cobia, mackerel, snapper and cod from North Reef. Snapper, sweetlip and few spotty mackerel from the Blinker. Lots of average bream and flathead along the sand bank edges from the Maroochy Waters Canals and Chamber's Island, through to Godfrey's Rd. Worth targeting a few Mangrove Jack in the creeks and around jetties and structures in the lower river and Cod Hole. Mud Crabs potted througout the river. 

Mooloolaba: Fish the beaches for whiting and dart. Jacks, flathead, trevally, whiting and a few cod in the Mooloolaba canals and the lower river rock walls. Whiting, bream and flathead to 69cm from La Balsa Sand basin. Cod, mangrove jack and and muddies from the upper Mooloolah. 

Caloundra: Try for flathead, mangrove jack and a few mud crabs in Coochin Creek. The Flathead, whiting and bream from Golden Beach. Whiting and flathead throughout the Passage. Mud crabs will be feeding in all the creeks that feed into the Passage.
