Sunshine Coast Fishing Reports

Local Fishing Report: Australia Day Saturday 2019-01-26

Offshore

Australia Day conditions will be great but with a northerly chop later in the day as winds will be northeasterly below 10 knots, increasing to 10 to 15 knots during the day, with seas around 1 metre. Tomorrows conditions are looking good as well with a bit of northerly chop with winds Northeasterly 10 to 15 knots and seas around 1 metre. Some good catches of spotty mackerel from the close in reefs between Caloundra and Noosa. Quality Spanaish mackerel up to 14kg on trolled baits close in shore in Luguna Bay and from Sunshine Reef. Cobia and Dolphin Fish from the Mooloolaba 8 mile and Caloundra 12 mile. Solid Cobia, sweetlip and tuna and some quality spanish mackerel from North Reef. Spanish and spotty mackerel from the Blinker. Also cobia, trout, sweetlip and pearl perch from Sunshine Reef. On Double Island Point reefs here's been a few good catches of scarlet sea perch and some quality pearl perch, gold band snapper, amberjack and nice cod.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: The lower river is producing quality GT's, golden trevally, some reasonable bream, grunter bream and flathead. Flathead, bream and whiting in the Frying Pan. The Woods Bay fishing well for flathead, bream and trevally Whiting also from the Yacht Club and near the ferry stretch. A few good catches of mangrove jack in the creeks, canals and around the bridge structures and up between the lakes.

Maroochydore: Bream and a few flathead from Cotton Tree. A few big whiting throughout the lower reaches. Some big trevally to 60cm early yesterday morning, a good estuary cod and bream to 30cm from the Cod Hole. Few quality Mangrove Jack to 50 cm in the upper estuary. Flathead from the creek mouths. Mud Crabs potted mainly in the upper river. 

Mooloolaba: Bream and trevally from the moorings. Trevally from La Balsa park. Jacks, flathead to 60cm, trevally, from McKenzies Bridge. Cod, mangrove jack and and muddies from the upper Mooloolah. 

Caloundra: A few bream, whiting and dart from along the beaches. Bream and sweetlip from Moffat head. Some quality flathead, a few big hard fighting mangrove jack and mud crabs in the Creeks that flow into the Pumicestone Passage. Worth a try for a few good whiting around the sand banks throughout the passage.

Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2019-01-24

Offshore

Offshore conditions will be okay with winds north to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots decreasing to about 10 knots before dawn, with seas around 1 metre. Tomorrow will be great conditions with winds east to northeasterly about 10 knots. and seas below 1 metre. Some good catches of spotty mackerel from the close in reefs between Caloundra and Noosa. Quality Spanaish mackerel up to 14kg on trolled baits close in shore in Luguna Bay and from Sunshine Reef. Cobia and Dolphin Fish from the Mooloolaba 8 mile and Caloundra 12 mile. Solid Cobia, sweetlip and tuna and some quality spanish mackerel from North Reef. Spanish and spotty mackerel from the Blinker. Also cobia, trout, sweetlip and pearl perch from Sunshine Reef. Offshore

Offshore conditions will be workable with a bit of northerly chop with winds northeasterly 10 to 15 knots, with seas below 1 metre. Tomorrow may be even better with winds east to northeasterly about 10 knots and seas still below 1 metre. Some good catches of spotty mackerel from the close in reefs between Caloundra and Noosa. Quality Spanaish mackerel up to 14kg on trolled baits close in shore in Luguna Bay and from Sunshine Reef. Cobia and Dolphin Fish from the Mooloolaba 8 mile and Caloundra 12 mile. Offshore

Winds will be easterly at 10 to 15 knots, with seas below a meter and east to northeasterly swell below a meter.Some good catches of spotty mackerel from the close in reefs between Caloundra and Noosa. Quality spanaish mackerel on trolled baites from Sunshine Reef. Cobia and Dolphin Fish from the Mooloolaba 8 mile and Caloundra 12 mile. Cobia, sweetlip and tuna from North Reef. Spanish and spotty mackerel from the Blinker. Also cobia, trout, sweetlip and pearl perch from Sunshine Reef.

Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2019-01-19

Offshore

Be ready to go for the next few days right through to Mondays Full Moon Phase which will have the fish feeding, with okay conditions today with a bit of northerly chop in the afternoon as winds will be northeasterly about 10 knots increasing to 10 to 15 knots in the early afternoon then decreasing to about 10 knots in the evening and seas below 1 metre.Tomorrow conditions will also be workable as well with winds east to northeasterly about 10 knots tending east to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots during the morning with seas below 1 metre. Still catching some quality Snapper and there have been reports of plenty of dolphin fish, or Mahi mahi on local reefs off Mooloolaba. Plenty of of cobia on the closer inshore reefs off the Sunshine Coast at present with floating pilchards and live baits doing the job. Sunshine Reef for a great catch of cobia, Spanish and spotty mackerel, coral trout, moses perch, striped tuna, tusk fish, snapper, grass emperor, sweetlip and quite a few pearl perch. Cobia, mackerel, snapper and cod from North Reef. Spanish and spotty mackerel out from Mooloolaba. Cobia, snapper, venus tusk fish and spanish mackerel off Coolum. Mackerel and maori cod from Caloundra 12 mile. Double Island Point has had cobia, venus tusk fish, pearl perch, moses perch, grass emperor and snapper.

Mooloolaba: Definatly worth a try for whiting, bream and trevally in the Mooloolah canals. Bream and trevally from the moorings. Jacks, flathead to 60cm, trevally, from McKenzies Bridge. Cod, mangrove jack and and muddies from the upper Mooloolah. 

Caloundra: Some big flathead, mangrove jack and mud crabs in Coochin Creek. Try for flathead, a few whiting and bream from Golden Beach. Quality whiting south of Bells Creek over night. Mud crabs will be feeding in all the creeks that feed into the Passage.
