Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2018-05-31

Well, tomorrow is the first day of Winter, so get ready for some fantastic winter fishing, this season. You can expect a few months of quality catches of bream, luderick ready to feed, schools of mullet, tailor and jew along the coast, with snapper moving closer in shore, squid and a few school mackerel on the menu.

Offshore

Strong Wind Warning for Thursday for Sunshine Coast Waters, with winds south to southwesterly 20 to 25 knots, briefly reaching up to 30 knots at times offshore early in the morning. Winds decreasing to 10 to 15 knots during the afternoon, then increasing again to 15 to 20 knots during the evening and seas 1.5 to 2.5 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres around midday. Tomorrow choppy out wide with southwesterly 15 to 20 knots turning southerly early in the morning and seas 1 to 2 metres. So when the wind and seas settles back be ready to go! Double Island Point there's been tusk fish, pearl perch, snapper, gold spot cod, moses perch, red emperor, trevally and Maori cod. Sunshine and North Reef have had coral trout to 6.0kg, also had good Spanish mackerel and yellow tail kingfish, snapper and grass sweetlip and also a few cobia. quality Spanish mackerel,off Mooloolaba, Coolum and Caloundra. Caloundra 12 Mile has had good snapper and cobia showing up. Out on the reefs off Double Island catches of snapper, yellowfin tuna, Spanish mackerel, pearlies, jew cobia, red emperor, scarlet sea perch, hussar and gold spot wrasse.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Flathead around Munna Pt and good golden trevally around the sand bags. Chopper tailor, whiting a few quality bream and trevally from the River mouth and lower river. Trevally, tailor and bream in Woods Bay. School jew, threadfin salmon and good mud crabs in between the lakes.

Maroochydore: Plenty of school jew in the middle river with a few good keeper fish in the deeper holes. Quality trevally the Cod Hole stretch. Dart, bigger bream to 40cm, tailor and jew from both sides of the river mouth. Flathead around Chambers Island and Picnic Point. Still getting some good late season mud crabs throughout the river. Sand crabs form the lower river.

Mooloolaba: Good schools of 3 X 2 gar in the lower river. Quality bream around the rocks walls and Jetties in the lower river. Golden and diamond trevally in the middle river and canals. Mud crabs in the canals and its worth trying for some sand crabs.

Caloundra: Tailor and bream for the NE tip of Bribie. Whiting, bream and flathead along the golden beach stretch. A few nice jew in the deeper holes throughout the passage. Trevally, bream and cod in Pelican waters. Still muddies in the creeks.

Local Fishing Report: Wednesday 2018-05-30

Offshore

Today's Full Moon Phase and the cold weather forecast and the official start of the Winter fishing season on Friday will have the fish feeding and on the bite. Today really good conditions early and for most of the day, but could become choppy to rough out wide away from the coast late in the afternoon and evening with winds southerly about 10 knots. Winds becoming northwesterly during the afternoon, tending north to northeasterly inshore. Winds shifting southwesterly 20 to 25 knots from the south during the evening and seas below 1 metre. Tomorrow early it should be calm close inshore but choppy to rough out wide away from the coast with winds increasing to south to southwesterly 15 to 25 knots with seas 1 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1 metre during the afternoon or evening. So when conditions are favourable get out to Sunshine for snapper, coral trout, sweetlip, moses perch and spanish mackerel. North Reef had coral trout, Spanish mackerel, yellowtail kingfish and snapper.  Grass sweetlip,  cobia, quality Spanish mackerel off Mooloolaba. Caloundra 12 Mile has had good snapper and cobia showing up. Trout, Spanish mackerel, cod, grass sweetlip, cobia and tusk fish from the Barwon Banks.

Offshore

Wednesdays Full Moon Phase and the cold weather will have the fish feeding and on the bite. Excellent offshore conditions with winds easterly 10 to 15 knots tending southeasterly before dawn. Winds tending south to southwesterly inshore during the early morning with seas below 1 metre. More great conditions tomorrow with winds variable about 10 knots becoming west to northwesterly 10 to 15 knots during the evening and seas below 0.5 metres. Sunshine has had quality coral trout, sweetlip, moses perch and spanish mackerel. Offshore

Winds will be southeasterly at 10 to 15 knots decreasing to about 10 knots in the late evening, with seas around the 1m mark.  Sunshine has had quality coral trout, sweetlip, moses perch and spanish mackere. North Reef had coral trout, Spanish mackerel, yellowtail kingfish and snapper.  Grass sweetlip,  cobia, quality Spanish mackerel off Mooloolaba. Caloundra 12 Mile has had good snapper and cobia showing up. Trout, Spanish mackerel, cod, grass sweetlip, cobia and tusk fish from the Barwon Banks.

Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2018-05-26

Offshore

Today winds increasing to Southeasterly 20 to 25 knots, easing to 15 to 20 knots during the afternoon with seas 1.5 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1.5 metres during the afternoon. 1.5 to 2.5 metres. Tomorrow, Sunday conditions will ease back a littleast to southeasterly 15 to 20 knots, with seas 1 to 1.5 metres. So may be better to stay and fish in sheltered waters and when conditions improve, late Monday and particularly on Tuesday be ready to go! So,with that in mind, Wild Thing 2 crews fished Chardons Reef early in the week where they caught moses perch, grass sweetlip, Maori cod, venus tusk fish, snapper, gold spot estuary cod and pearl perch.Sunshine and North Reef have had coral trout to 6.0kg, also had good Spanish mackerel and yellow tail kingfish, snapper and grass sweetlip also a few cobia, quality Spanish mackerel,off Mooloolaba, Coolum and Caloundra. Caloundra 12 Mile has had good snapper and cobia showing up. Out on the reefs off Double Island catches of snapper, yellowfin tuna, Spanish mackerel, pearlies, jew cobia, red emperor, scarlet sea perch, hussar and gold spot wrasse and mahi mahi. Trout, Spanish mackerel, cod, grass sweetlip, cobia and tusk fish from the Barwon Banks.

Noosa: Flathead around Munna Pt and good golden trevally around the sand bags. Chopper tailor, whiting a few good bream and trevally from the River mouth and lower river. A few trevally to 61cm and tailor in and around Woods Bay. Plenty of bream starting to feed throughout the river.

Maroochydore: Plenty of jew with lots of juveniles with some fish to 80cm and one on a live bait went 1.1m early in the week in the Cod Hole. Flathead around Chambers Island and Picnic Point. Bream and nice golden trevally from the river mouth. Jew taken off the rocks at Yaroomba and Coolum and also dart, bream and a few chopper tailor feeding around the river mouth and in the gutters along the beaches . Still getting some good late season mud crabs throughout the river.

Mooloolaba: Try for jew, bream and a few tailor off Point Cartwright at dawn and dusk or overnight. Good size bream around the rocks walls and Jetties in the lower river. Trevally and flathead from La Balsa Basin. Mud crabs and some quality flathead in the creeks and canals.

Caloundra: The luderick will be feeding soon around all the structures and bream moving along the coast and into the passage and the odd chopper tailor feeding around the bar and throughout the passage. Whiting, bream and flathead along the golden beach stretch. Still muddies in the creeks.
