Fishing Report: Monday 2018-12-17

Offshore

Still very ordinary conditions with winds, east to northeasterly 15 to 20 knots. Winds tending easterly during the afternoon and evening and reaching up to 25 knots offshore with seas 1.5 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1.5 metres during the morning, then increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres around midday. Tomorrows conditions will be much better with winds easterly 10 to 15 knots and seas 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing to 1 metre during the morning. Before the recent crook weather conditions there were quality dolphin fish, sweetlip and spanish mackerel from Sunshine Reef. Cobia, mackerel, snapper and cod from North Reef. Snapper, sweetlip and few spotty mackerel from the Blinker. Dolphin fish and spanish mackerel from the Mooloolaba 8 mile. Cobia, snapper, venus tusk fish and spanish mackerel off Coolum. Grass sweetlip and moses perch from Old Women Island. Spanish mackerel and maori cod from Caloundra 12 mile. Spotty mackerel, cobia, snapper, pearl perch and tusk fish from the Barwon Banks.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Try for whiting from the flats in the lower river under the cover of the dirty water. Jacks and flathead between the lakes. Queenies and trevally at dawn in Woods Bays. Jacks from Noosa Sound, Weyba Creek and the Marina. The wet conditions have stirred up the Mud crabs right through the river system, so put your pots out and see what you get.

Maroochydore: The river water has a good run of dirty fresh water so the mud crabs are throughout the river system and there have already been a few solid bucks potted. Jacks and school jew from the rock bars above Bli Bli. Trevally, bream and flathead Cod Hole area. Flathead between Eudlo Creek and Bli Bli.

Mooloolaba: When the weather calms down from Tuesday on try the beaches for whiting and dart. Jacks, flathead, trevally, whiting and a few cod in the Mooloolaba canals and the lower river rock walls. Whiting, bream and flathead from La Balsa Sand basin. Cod, jack and and muddies from the upper Mooloolah.

Caloundra: Flathead,mangrove jack and a few mud crabs in Coochin Creek. The Flathead, whiting and bream from Golden Beach. Whiting and flathead from the protected north western side of Bribie Island. After the heavy rain the Mud crabs will be feeding in all the creeks that feed into the Passage.

Jarvis Jack

Jarvis Henricks was stoked to catch this mangrove jack over night on the weekend and was happy to remind his Dad, Bruce that he had out fished him once again.

Offshore

Winds will be blowing north to northeasterly at 15 to 20 knots, with 1 - 1.5m seas and below a meter of southerly swell. Dolphin fish, sweetlip and spanish mackerel from Sunshine Reef. Cobia, mackerel, snapper and cod from North Reef. Snapper, sweetlip and few spotty mackerel from the Blinker. Dolphin fish and spanish mackerel from the Mooloolaba 8 mile. Cobia, snapper, venus tusk fish and spanish mackerel off Coolum. Grass sweetlip and moses perch from Old Women Island. Spanish mackerel and maori cod from Caloundra 12 mile. Spotty mackerel, cobia, snapper, pearl perch and tusk fish from the Barwon Banks.

Flathead between Eudlo Creek and Bli Bli on the banks. Flathead in Petrie Creek. Mud crabs in the deeper holes of the middle river and canals.

Mooloolaba: Jacks, flathead, trevally and whiting in the Mooloolaba canals. Jack and bream in the Kawana Canals. Bream and cod from the rock walls. Whiting, bream and flathead from La Balsa Sand basin. Cod and jack from the rock bars in the upper Mooloolah.

Cameron Sutherland Golden Trevally Picnic Point

Cameron Sutherland paddled his kayak over to the sand bank opposite Picnic Point and caught this pan sized golden trevally on a recent trip.

Cameron Sutherland Golden Trevally Picnic Point

Offshore

Head out early today before the 10 knot northerly winds increase in the middle of the day to 15-20 knots. Seas and swell are both under the 1m mark, with seas increasing to 1-1.5m in the afternoon. Snapper, sweetlip, pearl perch and spanish mackerel from Sunshine Reef. Cobia, mackerel, snapper and cod from North Reef. Snapper, sweetlip and few spotty mackerel from the Blinker. Deep End Snapper Mackerel

The Crew aboard Deep End Fishing Charters caught a few good spotty mackerel and pan sized snapper on their last trip to the banks.

Travis Hamilton Dusky Flathead Picnic Point

Travis Hamilton caught and released this dusky flathead while flicking plastics near Picnic Point.
