Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2013-12-14

Offshore

East to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots becoming variable about 10 knots before dawn then becoming easterly 10 to 15 knots in the early afternoon. Seas are still below 1m at the moment. Spotty mackerel between old women Island and Marcoola, on the gneerings, in Laguna Bay and the 5 mile off Caloundra. A few Spanish mackerel from Coolum and Sunshine Reefs. A 15 kg Samson fish, pearlies to 2kg and a few good snapper to 6kg taken on a Top Catch Charter to Caloundra Wide. Cobia, snapper and moses perch on North Reef.

Estuary's:

Noosa: Trevally, tailor, flathead, bream at the Noosa River mouth. Whiting in the frying pan. Whiting, mangrove jack and some excellent flathead from Weyba Creek and flathead, bream and school jew along the Tewantin reach. A few good jacks between the lakes.

Maroochydore: Dart, tarwhine and flathead along Mudjimba and Marcoola Beaches in the holes. Flathead to 94cm released at Cotton Tree. A few flathead 60-75cm between Chambers Island and Channel Island. Whiting to 40cm between Chambers and Goat Islands. Mud crabs in the creeks. Jack in Petrie Creek and jack and mud crabs in the upper reaches of the river.

Kawana: Dart and whiting along the beaches. Bream and a few reasonable trevally feeding around the mooring. Jacks in the in Kawana Waters and around the bridges in Currimundi Lake. Cod trevally and jack around McKenzies Bridge. Whiting in Mountain Creek reach.

Caloundra: Dart, flathead and whiting along Currimundi. Dart and whiting early in the morning from the NE tip of Bribie Island. Whiting off the banks near Military Jetty and along Golden Beach stretch. Plenty of mangrove jack in Bell's Creek, Pelican Waters and up Coochin Creek. Flathead off the boardwalk. Crabs south of Bells creek in the deeper water.

mark thompson 39cm whiting

Mark Thompson was fishing along black bank using worms when he caught several whiting up to 39cm on Friday.
