Local Fishing Report: Friday 2014-11-21

Offshore

It may be better to stay in port with more choppy conditions and winds  northerly 15 to 20 knots, reaching up to 25 knots at times. Also seas will be 1.5 to 2 metres, decreasing below 1.5 metres during the morning, then increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres around midday. There‚Äôs been snapper, sweetlip, maori cod and tusk fish have been taken from the gneerings. Top Catch Charters caught sweetlip, tusk fish and snapper at the caloundra 9nm. School mackerel and cobia from coolum reef. Snapper, cobia, red throat, pearl perch, amberjack, fusilier and hussar from the barwon banks.

Estuaries

Noosa: Flathead, bream, good whiting and trevally near the river mouth and in the Sound. A few big bream off Culgoa Pt over night. Good quality whiting up to 34cm in the Frying Pan and opposite Munna Point and in Lake Cooroibah. Bream, whiting and cod in Weyba Creek. Mangrove jack around the bridge pylons, jetties and snaggy banks particularly between the lake.

Maroochydore: Still plenty of herring bait fish in the river system. Trevally and several good jack around 50cm in Petrie Creek. Flathead and bream from Cotton Tree and around Chambers Island. Jack, trevally and flathead in the Cod Hole. A few whiting in the lower river and around the Bli Bli Islands. Good reports of mud crabs in the middle and upper reaches however many undersize crabs and monstrous female crabs.

Kawana: Dart on the southern side of Point Cartwright. Bream with the bigger fish at night around the moorings and whiting in the lower reaches of the Mooloolah River. Flathead and mangrove jack in Kawana Canals and in Mountain Creek. Golden trevally around Minyama island. Giant trevally and School jew around McKenzies Bridge.

Caloundra: A few grass sweetlip, bream and flathead from the boardwalk. Flathead, jack, whiting and bream in Currimundi Lake. Whiting inside the bar, on the NE tip of Bribie Island and along Golden Beach. Flathead and bream off the boardwalk. Mangrove jack and trevally in Pelican Waters and in Coochin Creek. A few sand and mud crabs throughout Pumicestone Passage.
