Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2014-12-13

Most offshore charters were cancelled yesterday due to strong winds and rain. Keen anglers stuck to the protected parts of the rivers and creeks to cast a line. Today we should see the wind ease slightly to 20-25 knots south to southeasterly and swell decrease to 1.5-2.5 metres. Large and powerful surf conditions are expected, so bar crossings and rock fishing could possibly be hazardous.

Noosa: Flathead, bream and trevally at the river mouth. Whiting on the banks in the lower reaches of the river. Flathead and bream in the Tewantin area. Flathead, bream, moses perch and estuary cod in Weyba Creek and Noosa Sound. Mangrove jack amongst the mangroves at Noosaville and Tewantin.

Maroochydore: Trevally to 48cm from around the motorway bridge pylons. Bream caught off the bank upstream from the Cod Hole boat ramp. Plenty of mud crabs and big, sweet sand crabs upriver from the canals, but particularly around the creek mouths. Flathead taken in the Cod Hole and Petrie Creek.

Kawana: Mangrove jack in Lake Kawana, Mountain Creek and the McKenzies Bridge area. Bream at night around the boat moorings and mud crabs in the canal system.

Caloundra: Golden trevally inside the bar. Whiting on the banks across from the Power Boat Club. Flathead on pilchards near the coastguard jetty. Trevally and whiting in Currimundi Lake. Grunter bream along the boardwalk and around Military Jetty. Sand crabs throughout the Pumicestone Passge.
