Local Fishing Report: Sunday 2014-08-31

Offshore

Good conditions for the first day of spring with winds variable about 10 knots becoming northerly 15 to 20 knots in the early afternoon. Seas Around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres by early evening. There are good catches of snapper on North with the odd nobby, sunshine, Coolum, and the Gneerings. Also good cobia, Maori cod and estuary cod at North and Chardons Reefs and pearlies at North Reef.

Estuaries

Noosa: We have turned the corner at last, so enjoy the Spring weather! Good catches of bream, flathead, whiting, trevally and tailor at the Noosa River mouth. Bream, whiting, flathead and moses perch in Weyba Creek. Trevally and flathead in Woods Bays. Grunter, school jew and flathead from the Tewantin stretch.

Maroochydore: Best to fish the lower reaches until the weed upstream clears away some more up stream. Bream and whiting in the lower river. Flathead from Eudlo & Petrie Creek mouths and Picnic Point. Whiting in the canals. Mud crabs still in the middle and lower river at present.

Kawana: Big bream around the mooring on the incoming tide over night. Bream and a few tailor around the high tide from the rock wall. Whiting and flathead in sand basin. Mud crabs in the canals and around Kawana Way.

Caloundra: Bream and whiting on the banks opposite Golden Beach. Bream and chopper tailor off the northern tip of Bribie Island. Whiting opposite the power boat club, at Bells Creek mouth and near Military Jetty. Flathead from the NW tip of Bribie Island and are taking lures on most of the banks throughout the northern end of the passage. Grunter bream at the mouth of Coochin Creek.
