Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2015-12-17


May be okay conditions early ahead of choppy in the afternoon to rough conditions by evening with winds east to southeasterly 10 to 15 knots, increasing to 15 to 20 knots in the afternoon, and to 20 to 25 knots in the evening and seas 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres by early evening. Top catch Charters report good catches on The Barwon Banks, Murphy's reef and the Gneerings, with the banks has been reliable as always especially for the pelagic species like mahi mahi, wahoo and some little yellow fin and blue fin tuna. The bottom fished well for red throat emperor, maori cod, moses perch, fusilier, amberjack, spangled emperor, squire, tusk fish and the odd big cod. In closer we have been getting squire, tusk fish, moses perch, hussar, coral trout, sweetlip, maori cod and spotted mackerel. There's been couple of good pearl perch taken on a Trekka 2 charter to North Reef. Quality jew or mulloway on a Cougar One charter to Chardon's Reef.


Noosa: A few good whiting along the Noosa north shore. Quality flathead to 78cm caught and released around Munna Point on whole prawn baits. There's been plenty of good trevally and flathead caught on soft plastics in the late afternoon at Woods Bay. Weyba Creek is producing Moses perch, estuary cod, bream, whiting and flathead all in good numbers. Flathead, bream, tailor and trevally at the Noosa River mouth. A few sand and mud crabs in the mid to upper reaches.

Maroochydore: Try for jew along Maroochy Beach at night. Tarpon also on the bite near the Cod Hole. Still plenty of whiting and good size grunter bream yesterday in the early mornings around Picnic Point, Chambers Island and Channel Island. Plenty of herring bait fish in big numbers around Chambers island yesterday. Mangrove jack and 35cm bream in the Maroochy Waters canal. Flathead and bream in numbers in the mouth of Eudlo Creek with mangrove jack and gar in the upper reaches and through Petrie Creek. Mud crabs in the upper reaches.

Kawana: A few big whiting and dart along the beaches. Whiting, golden trevally, bream and gar from the boat mooring and in the Kawana canals. Trevally along the rock walls around the river mouth. A few big flathead and whiting in the sand basin. Mangrove jack yesterday, trevally and flathead caught in Mountain Creek, in and around the bridge pylons and snaggy banks.

Caloundra: Dart and flathead along the beaches as well as trevally on the Happy Valley side of the Bar. Golden Beach and the mouth of Bells Creek both producing sizeable whiting, with flathead and jew in the drop offs and deeper holes around the Passage. Trevally in the canals and mangrove jack around the bridge pylons and rock walls.
