Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2016-11-26


Really good  conditions for the weekend with a bit of northerly chop and possibly an afternoon storm, with winds east to northeasterly,  with seas below 1 metre and the swells has eased back from what it was through the week to a southerly below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres offshore. Conditions tomorrow looking good again with winds east to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots decreasing to about 10 knots during the evening. northeasterly 10 to 15 knots turning northerly during the evening, with seas below 1 metre.  Sweetlip and tuskfish at Murphys Reef and sweetlip, moses perch and small snapper at Currimundi Wide. Spanish mackerel, yellowtail king cod, sweetlip and maori cod off Coolum. School mackerel on the Outer Gneerings and Arkwright Shoal, mahi mahi and sailfish near the FAD off Mooloolaba.School mackerel and sweetlip from Currimundi reef. Spanish and school mackerel on the gneerings. School mackerel from Caloundra 5 mile. Small sailfish on the 50m mark off Mooloolaba. There has been quality jew as well as moses perch plus pearl perch, coral bream on North Reef.  Sunshine Reef area has had snapper, moses perch, striped sea perch, cobia, pearl perch, Maori cod and a few small longtail tuna.


Noosa: Still catching the odd big tailor, a few dart, bream and tarwhine along Teerwah Beach. Quality flathead being throughout the river particularly in the lower reaches with the crews on Noosa River Fishing Safari’s are catching and releasing flathead to 70cm, in the Frying Pan area using a whitebait and a 68cm flathead near the Sand Bags using a whole prawn. Mangrove jack around 52cm, flathead and trevally in Noosa Sound and in Weyba Creek. Whiting feeding off the sand banks throughout the Noosa River. Worth putting the crab pots in the upper reaches and creeks.

Maroochydore: A few dart and whiting along North Shore/ Marcoola Beaches. Still schools of baitfish moving between Eudlo Creek and the Maroochy Waters Canals. Bream, whiting and flathead in the upper reaches and jacks around the Islands and snaggy areas in the creeks. Flathead, bream and trevally around the Motorway Bridge, There are mangrove jack in the upper reaches of the river and the creeks.. A few good whiting in the lower river and up around the Bli Bli Islands. The mud crabs are moving throughout but mainly in the upper river.

Kawana: There’s trevally and bream on the incoming tide along the rock walls at the Mooloolah River mouth. Flathead upstream from McKenzies Bridge and trevally along the La Balsa Park reach and mangrove jack at night around the bridge pylons, moorings and pontoons. Flathead, mangrove jack and whiting in Mountain Creek and mud crabs in the deep holes in the canals.

Caloundra: Flathead throughout the Passage particularly at the creek mouths. Whiting in Currimundi Lake and along the Golden Beach stretch. Bream and flathead off the boardwalk particularly at night. Pelican waters canals are good for bream, mangrove jack and trevally. Reports of good catches of mangrove jack and plenty of mud crabs on the prowl particularly in Coochin and Bells Creeks.
