Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2019-09-28

Offshore: Unfortunately another weekend of lumpy bumpy northerly winds and seas in offshore waters. Winds are North to northwesterly at 15 to 20 knots, reaching up to 25 knots offshore south of Maroochydore in the early morning. Inshore winds tending north to northeasterly with afternoon sea breezes. Offshore winds increasing to 20 to 25 knots in the late evening, with seas around 1 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres around midday, then increasing to 1 to 2 metres by early evening. On Sunday the winds will be North to northwesterly at 15 to 20 knots, reaching up to 25 knots offshore before dawn and again in the late evening. Inshore winds turning north to northeasterly with afternoon sea breeze, with 1 to 1.5 metre seas, increasing to 1 to 2 metres offshore.

There have been cacthes of quality snapper, venus tusk fish and amberjack out from Rainbow Beach. North Reef had cobia, jewfish, pearl perch, Moses perch and venus tusk fish. Sunshine Reef had good snapper, tusk fish, Moses perch, bonito, longtail tuna, grass emperor and school mackerel. Cod, sweetlip, snapper and tusk fish from Coolum. Pearl perch, snapper, tusk fish and tuna from Caloundra 12 mile.

The Caloundra Powerboat Fishing Club is again holding its annual Take-A-Kid-Fishing Day on Sunday at Golden Beach. Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Trevally and mangrove jack in Woods Bays. Quality whiting in good numbers throughout the lower river. Flathead from the entrance of the lakes. Flathead from the river mouth and frying pan. 

Maroochydore: Big flathead released to 89cm in the middle river yesterday. Chopper tailor, flathead, bream and trevally under the motorway bridge. Whiting throughout the lower river. Mangrove jack in the creeks and upper river. Trevally and flathead up Eudlo Creek.

Mooloolaba: Whiting from Mountain Creek and the La Balsa sand basin. Bream, cod and trevally from the boat moorings. Cod, mangrove jack and flathead from the twin bridges. Flathead and trevally in Mooloolaba Canals.

Caloundra: Cod, jack, flathead and the odd mud crab in Coochin Creek. Big flathead between the bar and golden beach. Elbow slapper whiting throughout the northern passage. Trevally, cod and mangrove jack in Pelican Waters.

Robert Whiting 89cm Dusky Released

Robert Whiting caught and released this 89cm dusky flathead while fishing with pilchards in the middel Maroochy River on friday. It's always good to see the big breeders swim away.
