Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2019-12-07

Offshore: Very choppy to rough conditions mostly today with the winds North to northwesterly 20 to 25 knots tending north to northeasterly in the afternoon and seas 1.5 to 2.5 metres. Tomorrow conditions will be pretty choppy to rough but easing back in the afternoon and could drop out completely so keep your eyes on the conditions with winds north to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots ahead of a trough moving northwards during the morning, with southerly winds 20 to 25 knots behind the trough. Winds tending north to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots throughout during the afternoon and seas 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing to 1 metre during the morning. Cougar One skipper Nat Turner fished Double Island Point Thursday on a nine hour charter. We had glorious conditions with no wind to speak of most of the trip and a very slight current that seemed to change direction a bit. The fishing was hot and cold but we managed to catch some stonker scarlet sea perch, red emperor, snapper, venus tusk fish, moses perch and longtail tuna. Trekka 2 skipper Mitch Bertacchin did a trip to Chardon's Reef on Tuesday where we caught tusk fish, moses perch, pearl perch, Maori cod and spotted mackerel. And we ran a five hour charter to North Reef on Thursday. Conditions were as good as they get with no swell and very light winds. The river is still a bit tricky but the bar is quite deep to the rock groyne side. We caught gold spot cod, pearl perch, grass emperor, tusk fish and moses perch. Cobia to 130cm, spotty mackerel, grass sweetlip and coral trout from Sunshine Reef. Big grass sweetlip from the Gneerings. Spotty and a few spanish mackerel and small snapper form Caloundra 5 mile.
