Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2019-05-30


The winter fishing season is here and the colder conditions will be better for fishing and hopefull bring the snapper in closer this winter season, so see if you can get out. Good conditions particularly closer inshore for pretty well most of the day but becoming pretty chopy out wide in the evening, with winds west to southwesterly 10 to 15 knots, tending southwesterly 15 to 20 knots in the evening, and reaching up to 25 knots at times and seas around 1 metre, increasing to 1.5 to 2.5 metres in the evening. Tomorrow will good as the morning progresses exceelent close inshore and bays with winds Southwesterly 15 to 20 knots turning southerly 10 to 15 knots during the morning and seas 1 to 1.5 metres, decreasing to 1 metre during the morning. Eric Frei took home this 85cm ripper snapper off Mooloolaba on Saturday night caught on a slimy mackerel bait. Trekka 2 skipper Mitch Bertacchini and his crews has fished to both North and Sunshine reefs, where they caught pearl perch, some nice snapper, moses perch, venus tusk fish, monocle bream, grass emperor, painted sweetlip, chinaman fish (released), yellowfin tuna and longtail tuna. Warren Norup fished Sunshine Reef in his kayak on Saturday morning in average conditions for this 123cm Spanish mackerl trolling a slimy mackerel. There's Spanish mackerel feeding over the Jew Shoal. Big longtail and mac tuna caught in close off Mooloolaba. A few good cobia, snapper sweetlip, school and spotty mackerel from Currimundi Reef and the Caloundra 5 and 9 mile reefs. Spanish mackerel, tuna and snapper from the Blinker. There were snapper, sweetlip, cobia and good longtails and Spanish mackerel as well as nice Red Emperor at Double Island Point last week.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Teewah on the Noosa North Shore has had flathead to 52cm, tailor to 55cm and a few good bream and whiting. Flathead, the odd tailor, golden trevally and bream around the river mouth and queenies and trevally in the Woods Bays. Tailor around 45ch in the Marina entrance. Whiting throughout the lower river and upstream in the lakes.

Maroochydore: The colder conditions will have the bream and tailor on the bite' so be ready to go, Tailor and big trevally yesterday between the Motorway Bridge and Chambers Island. Several catches of flathead, whiting and bream between the river mouth and Bli Bli particularly in the mouth of Eudlo Creek. Still a few crabs to be potted.

Mooloolaba: Worth fishing the headlands for jew, bream and perhaps a tuna as well as bream, dart and whiting in the gutters. Flathead, feeding in the creeks and canals, Plenty of bream, particularly at night and trevally from around the boat moorings and throughout the lower river. Still worth putting the pots in.

Caloundra; Try for whiting, bream, trevally and flathead along Golden Beach. A few quality flathead a few trevally and bream through the Passage Queenfish and trevally in Pelican Waters. Still a few mud crabs in the creeks that feed into the Passage.

Aaron Roberts Cobia caught at 9 mile today on mullet. Size was 120cm and 128cm
