Local Fishing Report: Saturday 2020-01-11

Offshore: Great conditions with winds north to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots with seas below 1 metre. Conditions tomorrow will deteriorate through the day with winds east to northeasterly about 10 knots becoming southeasterly 15 to 20 knots during the late morning and afternoon. Inshore winds reaching up to 25 knots in the afternoon and seas around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres south of Maroochydore during the afternoon. Sean van der Walt headed out to Sunshine Reef on his kayak on Thursday morning at first light and he was lucky enough to get a big Spanish Mackerel which went 127cm. Also kayak angler Jason Milne fished in close on Sunshine Reef Tuesday morning and picked up a solid yellowfin tuna around 6.00am on a trolled, squid skirted garfish. Cougar One skipper Nat Turner fished North Reef on Tuesday’s seven hour charter. There were a few pelagics about early with Spanish mackerel hitting trolled hard bodies and dolphin fish taking pilchard floaters. The rest of the catch was moses perch, pearl perch, grass sweetlip and venus tusk fish. Noosa Blue water Charters fished Double Island point for scarlet sea perch, venus tusk fish, snapper, pearl perch, moses perch, teraglin jewfish and gold spot cod. North Reef had Maori cod, gold spot cod, cobia, quality venus tusk fish, moses perch and squire. Wahoo and spanish mackerel from Jew Shoal. The Barwon Banks recently has had quality snapper to 92cm and good good Mahi Mahi, cobia, tusk fish, moses perch, pearl perch, Maori cod and mackerel on the reef. All fish went for pilchard floaters. North Reef for big grass sweetlip, Maori Cod, mosese perch, gold spot cod and small snapper. Deep End Fishing Charters, caught good spotty and spanish mackerel, cobia, big Mahi Mahi (Dolphin Fish), sweetlip and snapper from Caloundra 12 mile. Spotty mackerel from Caloundra 5 mile.

Estuaries and Beaches

Noosa: Diamond and tea leaf trevally and flathead between the river mouth and Woods Bays. Big flathead and queenfish from Tewantin Reach. A few good jacks from between the lakes. Whiting from the frying pan and Munna Point. A few quality muddies throughout the River System.

Maroochydore: Whiting and golden trevally around Chambers Island and Twin Waters. Grunter bream, whiting and moses perch from the Bli Bli reach. Flathead, giant trevally and mangrove jack in the creeks. Diamond scale mullet and bream from Cotton Tree.

Mooloolaba: Dart and bream off the beach at Warana. Diamond and giant trevally in the Kawana Waters canals. Flathead, mangrove jack and giant trevally in the Mooloolaba canals. Bream and cod around the moorings. Mangrove jack from the Twin bridges and rocky areas of the middle river.

Caloundra: Dart off the beach at Currimundi. Mangrove jack in the creeks and in Pelican waters canal. Whiting and some big flathead from Golden Beach. A few good crabs throughout the Passage and in the creeks. Grunter bream and flathead in Coochin Creek.
