2013 Fishing Reports

Local Fishing Report: Wednesday 23/01/2013

Noosa: Snapper, coral trout to 5.6kg and mackerel on Sunshine Reef. Whiting, flathead and trevally in Weyba Creek and in Woods Bay. Good quality mangrove jack and trevally in Noosa Sound. Muddies in the upper and middle reaches.

Maroochydore: Whiting in the gutter on low tide between Mudjimba and Marcoola. Mangrove jack, bream, moses perch and blubber lipped bream in the cod hole. Dusky flathead throughout the river. Whiting between Chambers Island and Channel Island on the sand banks and from the bank at Twin Waters. Mud crabs in the middle and upper reaches.

Kawana: A few schoolie and spotty mackerel close in and on Murphy's reef. Spanish mackerel from the Blinker. A few whiting and dart along Kawana Beach. Plenty of jacks, some to 3kg in Kawana Waters and in the upper reaches. Whiting and flathead to 70cm in the creeks.

Caloundra: Spanish and spotty mackerel from the 5 mile reef. Flathead on the drop offs inside the bar on plastics and pilchards. Trevally and mangrove jack in the Pelican Waters Canals. A few good whiting of the tip of Bribie island. Jacks in Bells and Coochin Creeks.

Local Fishing Report: Tuesday 22/01/2013

Noosa: There have been a few snapper, sweetlip and mackerel on Sunshine and North Reefs. Whiting, flathead and trevally in Weyba Creek and in Woods Bay. Good quality mangrove jack and trevally in Noosa Sound. Muddies in the upper and middle reaches.

Maroochydore: Mangrove jack to 2kg in the Creeks, from Bli Bli and the Cod Hole. Good numbers of dusky flathead throughout the river with many in the 50 to 60cm range. Whiting between Chambers Island and around Goat and Channel Islands. Some good mud crabs in the middle and upper reaches of the river, with the majority being big females.

Kawana: A few schoolie and spotty mackerel close in and on Murphy's reef. A few whiting and dart along Kawana Beach. Plenty of jacks, some to 3kg in Kawana Waters and from the bank along Kawana Waters. Whiting and flathead to 70cm in the creeks.

Caloundra: Mackerel on the close in reefs early morning ahead of the sea breese. Flathead on the drop offs inside the bar on plastics and pilchards. Trevally and mangrove jack in the Pelican Waters Canals. A few good whiting of the tip of Bribie island.

Noosa: Still light winds today so get out early to chase the mackerel and cobia. Whiting, flathead and trevally in Weyba Creek and in Woods Bay. Mangrove jack and trevally in Noosa Sound. Muddies in the upper and middle reaches.
Maroochydore: Try for spotty mackerel off Old Woman Is early ahead of the afternoon sea breese. Mangrove jackto 2kg in the Creeks, from Bli Bli and the Cod Hole as well as some big estuary cod. Good numbers of dusky flathead throughout the river. Whiting between Chambers Island and the mouth. Some good mud crabs in the middle and upper reaches of the river.
Kawana: Spanish Mackerel and cobia off Pt Cartwright and at the Blinker, wind increasing by Wednesday afternoon. A few whiting and dart along Kawana Beach. Plenty of jacks, some to 3kg in Kawana Waters and from the bank along Kawana Waters. Whiting and flathead to 70cm in the creeks.

Noosa: Be ready for a southerly change sometime today so get out early to chase the mackerel. Whiting, flathead and trevally in Weyba Creek and in Woods Bay. Mangrove jack and trevally in Noosa Sound. Muddies in the upper and middle reaches.

Maroochydore: There's been good spotty mackerel off Old Woman Is. Mangrove jack in the Creeks, from Bli Bli and the Cod Hole as well as some big estuary cod. Good numbers of dusky flathead throughout the river. Trevally to 2kg from Twin Waters and lower river. Whiting between Chambers Island and the mouth. Some good mud crabs in the middle and upper reaches of the river.

Kawana: Spanish Mackerel and cobia to 20 kg off Pt Cartwright and at the Blinker on Friday. A few whiting and dart along Kawana Beach. Plenty of jacks, some to 3kg in Kawana Waters and from the bank along Kawana Waters. Whiting and flathead to 70cm from Mountain Creek.

Caloundra: Mackerel on the close in reefs early morning ahead of the increasing wind strength. Bream and jew from Shelly & Moffat Beaches over night. Flathead on the drop offs inside the bar on plastics and pilchards. Trevally and mangrove jack in the Pelican Waters Canals.
