2014 Fishing Reports

Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2014-11-06

Offshore

Winds are northerly 10 to 15 knots, reaching up to 20 knots inshore early in the morning. Winds turning east to northeasterly about 10 knots in the early afternoon.   Swell and seas around both around the 1m mark.  Mahi mahi, yellowtail king fish, wahoo and amberjack from Caloundra 12 mile.  Yellowtail king fish, mahi mahi and pearl perch from the Barwon Banks. Rat yellowtail king and school mackerel on Currimundi Reef. Grass sweetlip and small snapper on the gneerings.

Estuaries

Noosa: Flathead and trevally on the current line at dawn and dusk near the river mouth. Whiting in the frying pan and opposite munna Point. Tailor and trevally in Woods Bay on sun set. Jacks and trevally in Weyba Creek. A few jacks and school jew in between the lakes.

Maroochydore: Flathead, bream and jacks from Dunethin Rock. Queenfish and bream from around the Twin Waters area. Estuary cod, bream, flathead and trevally in the Cod Hole. Whiting in the lower river. Flathead and trevally from Bli Bli Islands. Mud crabs in the upper reaches.

Kawana: Dart and whiting at first light along the kawana-wurtulla stretch of beach in the gutters. Whiting, jack and grunter bream in Currimundi Lake. Flathead and mangrove jack in Kawana Canals and in Mountain Creek. Golden trevally around minyama island. Giant trevally and School jew around McKenzies Bridge. Plenty of bream from the moorings.

Caloundra: Flathead, whiting and trevally near the entrance to Currimundi Lake. Whiting on the NE tip of Bribie Island and along Golden Beach. Flathead opposite the power boat club and the mouth of Bells Creek. Mangrove jack and trevally in Pelican Waters. Jacks and flathead in Bells and Coochin Creeks.

Offshore

Winds are northeasterly 10 to 15 knots increasing to 20 knots before turning northerly 10 to 15 knots in the late evening. Swell is decreasing to1m by midday and seas around increasing to 1-1.5m in the afternoon.  Mahi mahi, yellowtail king fish, wahoo and amberjack from Caloundra 12 mile.  Yellowtail king fish, mahi mahi and pearl perch from the Barwon Banks. Rat yellowtail king and school mackerel on Currimundi Reef. Grass sweetlip and small snapper on the gneerings.

Estuaries

Noosa: Flathead, trevally and whiting at the Noosa River mouth. Flathead, whiting, tailor and trevally in Woods Bay. Jacks and trevally in Weyba Creek. A few jacks in between the lakes and at the entrance to the Marina and between Lakes Cooroibah and Cootharaba.

Also a few flathead opposite the power boat club and the mouth of Bells Creek. Mangrove jack in Pelican Waters, Bells and Coochin Creeks.

Local Fishing Report: Monday 2014-11-03

Offshore

Winds settling back to east to southeasterly 15 to 20 knots.  Seas 1.5 to 2metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the morning. Much better conditions tomorrow with winds easing back to 10 to 15 knots and seas to 1m! Before the wind freshened there were mahi mahi on the Barwon Banks and yellowtail king and school mackerel on Currimundi Reef.

Estuaries

Noosa: Flathead, trevally and whiting at the Noosa River mouth. Flathead, whiting, tailor and trevally in Woods Bay. Jacks and trevally in Weyba Creek. A few jacks in between the lakes and at the entrance to the Marina and between Lakes Cooroibah and Cootharaba.

Maroochydore: Plenty of herring baitfish schooling up. Queenfish and bream from around the Twin Waters area. Chopper tailor, flathead, tarpon, trevally and estuary cod in the Cod Hole. School jew over night from upper Bli Bli. Whiting off Chambers Island, from Cotton Tree and Picnic Point. Flathead in the creek mouths. Mud crabs in the upper reaches.

Kawana: Dart along the beaches, trevally in the lower reaches of the Mooloolah River. Whiting, jack and grunter bream in Currimundi Lake. Flathead and mangrove jack in Kawana Canals and in Mountain Creek. Jacks in lake Kawana. Trevally around McKenzies Bridge. Plenty of bream from the moorings..

Offshore

Winds settling back a little but still southeasterly 20 to 25 knots.  Seas 1.5 to 2.5 metres with a northerly 1 to 2 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the morning, then tending southeasterly 1 to 2 metres around midday. Before the wind freshened; mahi mahi on the Barwon Banks and yellowtail king and school mackerel on Currimundi Reef.

Estuaries

Noosa: A few good whiting and flathead along Teewah Beach. Flathead, trevally and whiting at the Noosa River mouth. Flathead, whiting, tailor and trevally in Woods Bay. Jacks and trevally in Weyba Creek. A few jacks in between the lakes and at the entrance to the Marina and between Lakes Cooroibah and Cootharaba.
