Local Fishing Report: Monday 2014-10-27

Offshore

Strong Wind Warning again for today in Sunshine Coast Waters with a northeast to northwesterly 15 to 25 knots, reaching up to 30 knots in the morning. Seas 2 to 3 metres, decreasing to 1 to 1.5 metres around midday. So still uncomfortable boating conditions today, better to stay in sheltered waters.

Estuaries

Noosa: Big flathead caught and released, trevally, and whiting at the Noosa River mouth. Flathead to 81cm, brim to 35cm, a few good tailor and trevally in Woods Bay. Jacks and trevally in Weyba Creek. School jew and jacks between the lakes. Bass from the everglades.

Maroochydore: Plenty of herring bait schooling up around Chambers Island. Trevally and school jew from Bli Bli and the Cod Hole. Jacks and flathead in Petrie Creek. Whiting off Chambers Island, from Cotton Tree and Picnic Point. Flathead in Maroochy Waters. Mud crabs in the upper reaches.

Kawana: Big flathead released and a few trevally along La Balsa wall. Flathead and mangrove jack in Kawana Canals. Jacks in lake Kawana. School jew and trevally around McKenzies Bridge. Plenty of bream from the moorings.

Caloundra: Flathead and bream along the Boardwalk. A few reasonable whiting in the northern end of the passage. Flathead at the mouth of Bells Creek. Mangrove jack and schools of trevally around Pelican Waters Bridge. Flathead at the mouth of Pelican Waters.

Noosa: Big flathead caught and released, trevally, whiting and small cobia at the Noosa River mouth. Flathead, tailor and trevally in Woods Bay. Jacks and trevally in Weyba Creek. School jew and jacks between the lakes. Bass from the everglades.

Ashton and Lachlan caught a few nice whiting yesterday morning on live yabbies from Cotton Tree.

Local Fishing Report: Friday 2014-10-24

Offshore

Okay early but could be a bit choppy particularly in the afternoon and night as winds will be northeasterly 10 to 15 knots turning northerly 15 to 20 knots early in the morning. Winds reaching up to 25 knots inshore in the evening. Seas 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres during the afternoon. There have been good catches the past few days of a 15kg mulloway, good red throat emperor, snapper, sweetlip, tuna and big cobia from North Reef There have been red throat emperor, tuskfish, moses perch and gold spotted wrasse on the Barwon Banks.  Sweetlip, snapper, tuskies and big estuary cod on the Gneerings and off Caloundra 12 mile  Cobia, snapper and pearl perch at Caloundra Wide and 12 Mile.

Estuaries

Noosa: Last night's New Moon phase will have the fish feeding particularly over night for the next few days. Flathead caught and released yesterday 80 and 88cm at the Noosa River mouth. Flathead, bream and trevally along the Noosaville reach and in Woods Bay. Jack and bream in Weyba Creek. Flathead and bream along the Tewantin reach. Bass, and flathead from the everglades.

Maroochydore: Plenty of herring bait fish including bigger ones to 15cm schooling up around Chambers Island. Trevally and school jew over night from Bli Bli and the Cod Hole. Jacks and flathead in Petrie Creek. Whiting off Chambers Island. Whiting, bream and flathead from Picnic Point. Mud crabs in the upper reaches.

Kawana: Dart, flathead and whiting along the beaches. Big flathead released and a few trevally along La Balsa wall. Flathead and mangrove jack in Kawana Canals. Jacks in lake Kawana. School jew and trevally around McKenzies Bridge. Plenty of bream from the moorings.

Caloundra: Flathead and bream along the Boardwalk. Whiting from Golden and Bulcock beaches. Whiting and flathead at the mouth of Bells Creek. Mangrove jack and schools of trevally around Pelican Waters Bridge. Bream in the Blue Hole. Try for jew along the headlands and around the bar over night.

94cm flathead la balsa

This monster 94cm dusky flathead was feeding in the Mooloolah River with Trent from Top Catch Charters releasing it this week.

Local Fishing Report: Thursday 2014-10-23

Offshore

Winds are north to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots with  seas are around 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the afternoon. There have been red throat emperor, tuskfish, moses perch and gold spotted wrasse on the Barwon Banks. A few quality snapper and tuna in Luguna Bay. There have been good catches the past few days of snapper, sweetlip, tuna and big cobia from North Reef.  Sweetlip, snapper, tuskies and big estuary cod on the Gneerings and off Caloundra 12 mile  Cobia, snapper and pearl perch at Caloundra Wide and 12 Mile.

The school jew are feeding in the Mooloolah River with Trent from Top Catch Charters releasing this 72cm fish this week.
