Local Fishing Report: Sunday 2014-09-21

Offshore

It will be a bit choppy today with winds SE 15 to 20 knots. Seas below 1.5-2 metres with a 1-2m SE swell offshore. Better to stay in sheltered waters unless you have a big vessel.

Estuaries

Noosa: Tailor in the mouth and golden trevally to 56cm off Gympie terrace. Quality whiting in the Frying Pan. Whiting along the Noosaville stretch. Flathead, Cale Cale, golden, diamond and giant trevally in Woods Bays and on the current line inside the river mouth.

Maroochydore: Bream and whiting in the deeper water around Goat and Channel Islands. Flathead at twin waters weir. Flathead and mangrove jack in Petire Creek. Sand crabs in the middle and lower river. Bream, whiting and flathead in Eudlo creek.

Kawana: Some good trevally around the twin bridge and minyama Island. Big bream still around the moorings on the incoming tide particularly over night. Bream and a few tailor around the high tide from the rock wall. Whiting and flathead in sand basin. Sand crabs in the lower river and mud crabs in the canals and around Kawana Way.

Caloundra: A few trevally on the high tide in Pelican Waters. Bream from Military jetty and in the Blue hole. Quality whiting opposite Bells creek and Golden Beach. Bells Creek. Whiting and bream in Currimundi Lake.

Local Fishing Report: Friday 2014-09-19

Offshore

Winds are northerly 10 to 15 knots becoming variable about 10 knots early in the morning then becoming southeasterly 15 to 20 knots in the morning. Seas below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres by early evening. There’s been cobia to 15kg and plenty of snapper on North Reef. Top Catch Charters have reported pearl perch, squire, tusk fish, amberjack, trevally, hussar and moses perch from the Barwon Banks. Squire, tuskfish, pearl perch, cobia, cod, maori cod, moses perch, and hussar from Caloundra 9 and 12 miles. Squire, pearl perch, moses perch, hussar and kingfish from Murphy’s Reef.

Estuaries

Noosa: Tailor to 55cm at the river mouth yesterday, Golden trevally to 56cm off Gympie terrace and excellent quality whiting in the Frying Pan. Try for mangrove jack in the creeks over the weekend. Whiting along the Noosaville stretch. Flathead, Cale Cale, golden, diamond and giant trevally in Woods Bays. Quality bream from the Marina, in the channel at Tewantin and in Lake Cooroibah.

Maroochydore: Bream, plenty of big flathead and whiting to 37cm in lower river. A few trevally feeding throughout the river particularly around the Cod Hole and in the south channel. Flathead and mangrove jack in Petire Creek. Sand crabs are still on the move in the lower river and at Godfries Rd. A few good mud crab throughout. Flathead from Chambers Island.

Kawana: Some good trevally to 2kg feeding in the lower river. Big bream still around the moorings on the incoming tide particularly over night. Bream and a few tailor around the high tide from the rock wall. Whiting and flathead in sand basin. Sand crabs in the lower river and mud crabs in the canals and around Kawana Way.

Caloundra: A few trevally on the high tide in Pelican Waters. Bream and whiting on the banks opposite Golden Beach and off the tip of Bribie. Flathead and whiting in Bells Creek. Mangrove jack, golden trevally and mud crab in the creeks that lead into the passage. Whiting and flathead in Currimundi Lake.

Seas will be decreasing to 1m by midday, with an increasing 1-1.5m SE swell. Local Fishing Report: Tuesday 2014-09-16

Offshore

Winds are Northwesterly 15 to 20 knots, reaching up to 25 knots offshore early in the morning, tending northwest to northeasterly 10 to 15 knots in the early afternoon then tending west to northwesterly in the late evening. Seas will be decreasing to 1m by midday, with a 1-1.5m E/SE swell. There have been reports of tuna feeding close in along the coast. Good snapper, sweetlip and parrot from the Blinker. Snapper, Spanish mackerel and tusk fish from Sunshine Beach. Tusk fish, snapper, Maori Cod from the Caloundra 9 mile.

Estuaries

Noosa: Golden trevally to 53cm off Gympie terrace and excellent quality whiting in the Frying Pan. A 54cm mangrove jack taken in the lower river over the weekend. Whiting along the Noosaville stretch. Flathead, Cale Cale, golden, diamond and giant trevally in Woods Bays. Quality bream from the Marina, in the channel at Tewantin and in Lake Cooroibah.

Maroochydore: Trevally to 50cm off Chambers Is. Sand crabs are moving in the big tides in the lower river and at Godfries Rd. A few good mud crab throughout. Whiting to 35cm from the black banks, Chambers Island and plenty of bream 25 to 30 cm throughout. School sized flathead in Petrie Creek.

Kawana: Some good trevally in the lower river. Big bream around the mooring on the incoming tide over night. Bream and a few tailor around the high tide from the rock wall. Whiting and flathead in sand basin. Sand crabs in the lower river and mud crabs in the canals and around Kawana Way.

Caloundra: A few trevally on the high tide in Pelican Waters. Bream and whiting on the banks opposite Golden Beach and off the tip of Bribie. Flathead and whiting in Bells Creek. Mangrove jack and golden trevally in Coochin creek. Whiting and flathead in Currimundi Lake.

Cale Cale Woods Bays

Cale Cale and other species of trevally have been very active in Woods Bays this week with the locals have plenty of fun on light gear.
