Local Fishing Report: Wednesday 2014-09-10

Offshore

Stick closer in today with the westerly influence. Wind will be W/NW 10-15 knots, reaching 20 knots in offshore waters. Seas and swell are decreasing below 1m in the morning.  Amberjack to 19kg on the Hards. Good snapper, sweetlip and parrot from the Blinker. Snapper, Spanish mackerel and tusk fish from Sunshine Beach. Tusk fish, snapper, Maori Cod from the Caloundra 9 mile.

Estuaries

Noosa: Good catches of bream, flathead, whiting and trevally at the Noosa River mouth. Whiting along the Noosaville stretch. Quality bream from the Marina, in the channel at Tewantin and in Lake Cooroibah. School jew from the ski run at Tewantin.

Maroochydore: There's heaps of sand crabs in the lower river at present. Whiting to 35cm from the black banks and Chambers Island. Bream and small dusky flathead in Petie Creek. Trevally to 55cm from the cod hole on surface lures. Mud crabs still in the middle river and the bottom end of Chambers Island.

Kawana: Whiting and bream in the gutters south of Kawana. Big bream around the mooring on the incoming tide over night. Bream and a few tailor around the high tide from the rock wall. Whiting and flathead in sand basin. Sand crabs in the lower river and mud crabs in the canals and around Kawana Way.

Caloundra: Squid off the rocky headland at Moffat and Kings Beaches. A few trevally on the high tide in Pelican Waters. Bream and whiting on the banks opposite Golden Beach. Flathead and whiting in Bells Creek. Bream and whiting in the lower end of Currimundi Lake.

5kg amberjack barwon banks

Top Catch Charters have been fishing the Barwon banks recently for amberjack to 5kg, snapper to 3kg, tusk fish to 2kg and quality pearl perch.

Looks good this morning for an early fish with 10-15 knots N/NE winds tending N/NW 15-20knots in the afternoon. Seas are 1-1.5m with 1m of E/SE swell. Amberjack to 19kg on the Hards. Winds are Southeasterly 15 to 20 knots. Seas are 1 to 1.5 metres, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres offshore, with a S/SE swell 1 metre, increasing to 1.5 to 2 metres offshore. Good snapper, sweetlip and parrot from the Blinker. Snapper, Spanish mackerel and tusk fish from Sunshine Beach.

Estuaries

Noosa: Good catches of bream, flathead, whiting, trevally and tailor at the Noosa River mouth. Whiting along the Noosaville stretch. Quality bream from the Marina, in the channel at Tewantin and in Lake Cooroibah. School jew from the ski run at Tewantin.

Maroochydore: Jew, bream and tailor off the northern beaches. Whiting to 40cm from the black banks. Bream to 30cm, quality dusky flathead around Goat & Channel Islands. Trevally to 55cm from the cod hole on surface lures. Mud crabs still in the middle river and canals.

Kawana: Whiting and bream in the gutters south of Kawana. Big bream around the mooring on the incoming tide over night. Bream and a few tailor around the high tide from the rock wall. Whiting and flathead in sand basin. Mud crabs in the canals and around Kawana Way.
